Combing through some old Wrestling Observer's got me wondering about the Ultimate Warrior's return to the WWF at Wrestlemania VIII. How long was it known for that he was coming back?
Given how the booking of the show seemed to take place in the span of a month (the change from a Hogan/Flair main event to Hogan/Justice and Flair/Savage), he conceivably could've been brought back as a mystery opponent for Jake Roberts (which the fans should've easily surmised the opponent's identity), likely increasing the buyrate for the show.
I've yet to read anything from back then that hinted at his return, making me wonder if it wasn't a last minute decision to bring him back into the fold.
Anyone read otherwise?

According to Vince, he simply forgave for what happened at Summer Slam 1991, I guess once they got him into a new contract, they saw that moment at WM 8 the perfect oppertunity to let him reermge, it's almost like he ran out on Hogan at Summer Slam and he came back out to save him 8 months later

What I'm interested in reading about is when it was known (if it known at all) to the Meltzer types. It would be surprising to know if Vince on a whim decided to just bring him back at the last minute.

I'd say probably a month or more, at least. Which isn't to say anyone other than Vince and Warrior knew until the day of the match.

You were gone so long that when Sid and I were in the ring for so long that he got bored and turned heel"
