When they got Eric to be the GM of Raw, were there any rumors about it actually being Bischoff? I don't mean on TV but online. Were sites reporting Bischoff had signed or was going to be the GM?
Who were the other names reported to have been the GM?

I don't remember it being spoiled, but it's been so long I could be wrong.
Wouldn't surprise me if they are hoping EB leaves TNA in the near future so he can come back for a quick angle as the payoff to the Raw GM storyline, but I don't see that happening.

Wasn't it top secret?
I remember reading or seeing something about it where Vince called Eric over the weekend, they sorted out a deal. He came on the private jet, got the McLimo and sat in the parking lot right until he was ready to come out. I believe Booker's and Coach's reaction to him backstage were real because no one knew about it.
I don't even remember if it was announced beforehand there was going to be GMs, but if it was i'm sure some people guessed Bischoff but they'd think it would be a long shot.

It had been rumored that people in the company wanted to bring in Bischoff for months before it actually happened. Nobody had any clue that it was going to go down when it did.

No, there weren't really rumors that it was Bischoff. I remember the fans at the time and the wrestling sites pretty much agreed that it was one of the most shocking and unexpected things to happen in WWE for years.
Not long after he debuted,I did read that Vince Russo was the one who pitched the idea to bring in Eric Bischoff. Russo was very briefly brought back by WWE if you recall.

I think they already had GMs from the time the brand-split was created. I know RAW had Flair and SD had Vince. Then again, they may not have been called GMs then. But no, I was always reading the dirtsheets back then. Bischoff wasn't spoiled. It was a damn good surprise.

The story was after Shane and Stephanie lost the Invasion at Survivor Series '01, they sold their shares of the WWF to Flair to get back at their father. So Vince and Flair were co-owners. After a few months of butting heads, Linda announced the brand split, and Flair would be the sole owner of Raw and Vince would be the sole owner of Smackdown. After a few months of that, Vince and Flair had a match for sole control over the WWF, which Vince won. The following week on each show, he announced GMs for each, Bischoff for Raw and Stephanie for Smackdown.

They shouldn't have even had him appear until right after Vince announced him. It ruined the surprise when he appeared during the Booker & Coach interview.
