didnt see it posted here... Scott Keith sez: The PPV universe continues to shrink for WWE, as the latest Observer notes that preliminary numbers for Over The Limit put the buyrate at about 75,000 domestic. That’d be cause for people in the front office to get blackballed from wrestling Sports Entertainment just a few years ago, but seemingly WWE has given up on PPV as a serious revenue stream in 2011 and offers up R-Truth in a World title match as proof. At any rate, that’s scary close to beating out December to Dismember as the lowest of all time, but international buys will probably save it from that distinction. The lesson appears to be clear: The Rock was worth every penny they paid him for Wrestlemania and then some. www.rspwfaq.com/2011/06/08/way-way-under-the-limit/wow...

With the main event we got on that PPV, it deserves negative buys.

Now, why did we need a cheap shot at R-Truth in that?

Why take a shot at Truth like that? He's getting over and is hugely entertaining.

Keith doesn't watch current WWE, so his stuff with R-Truth doesn't really matter...

Yeah, even as a fan of Keith, I have to say he shouldn't criticize something if he has no clue due to not watching the product.
But if the 75,000 are true, thats almost December to Dismember-level bad.

R Truth has been the best thing to happen to WWE TV in the last year. He is remarkably unpredictable and has the must see factor about him. I dont see what he has to do with things.
Want to find a problem? Try the usual ones. Formualic booking, cut and paste opponents for Cena, and the fact that youve done almost the exact same thing with Cena since 2006. There should be no such thing as a throwaway PPV, yet somehow this became one. If youre title changes away on Smackdown, why is there a necessity to watch WHC matches on PPV? How many UFC events held in North America had a title match on free TV?

WWE should go back to the In Your House PPV model. People just aren't going to pay that these PPV prices in this economic climate for lackluster looking cards. Go back to dropping the price of every PPV except the Big 4.

Keep in mind that this was before R-Truth was awesome. R-Truth turned heel before Extreme Rules. And gave that momentous Little Ronnie promo the week before Extreme Rules.

Ignoring the petty and foolish R-Truth comment... Thats just horrendously painful. However I would agree with a point that WWE doesn't really rely on PPV buys as much anymore, with extra stuff like their dvds, greater international tv exposure and tours, blah blah blah.
However 75000 buys is really quite embarassing. TNAs biggest ppv got 60000 buys and thats disturbingly close.... and didn't December to Dismember get around 90000 buys? Perhaps I'm remembering it incorrectly but still... ouch...

Yes, but he's more into MMA than wrestling now. Although some of his thoughts are worth reading when he does not write something like that R-Truth comment.

What? Having Cena announce he would win every title match until WrestleMania, and then booking him in a match that he never loses in didn't sell well? Well, I'm just shocked.
I know that's not the whole story, but booking a predictable show is a major part of the problem. On top of that, NOT HAVING A FULLY BOOKED CARD WHEN IT'S THE WEEK OF THE PPV IS MORONIC! I'm not sure if that pertains to OTL, but it damn sure does to Capitol Punishment.

Keith doesn't watch current WWE, so his stuff with R-Truth doesn't really matter... I think I might understand his thinking however: R-Truth, for as long as he's been in the WWE in this stint, as been protrayed as nothing more than a lower-mid-carder. Even somewhat during his heel turn it looked like he was nothing but a fourth banana. Now since WWE is scrambling for new stars and this new personality in R-Truth was revealed, might as well strike while the iron is HOT!

That's what happens you you have too many PPVs, Vince. People won't buy all of them. If someone were to buy every single PPV of 2011, the total cost would be around $540 if they were all in SD, and around $660 if they were all in HD. That's way too much to pay. So either decrease the amount of PPVs or lower the price if you're that desperate for buys, Vince. It's that simple.

So, hypothetical here...
Would 6 ppv's a year generate more revenue than 12?
Most fans would agree at this point that the oversaturation of PPV's is getting insane. To the point you can't build a decent storyline arc over the course of 3-4 weeks...
I'm just wondering if you had the time to actually craft a feud, that 6 ppv's wouldn't out-earn 12.
*shrug*

this is why you shouldn't have two ppvs in a 3 week span.
Also, what was ER's buyrate?
