ir.corporate.wwe.com/interactive/LookAndFeel/4121687/WWE-keyperformance.pdfWWE's official charts have been updated. Capitol Punishment is up compared to both Over the Limit and to last year's June PPV, Fatal 4-Way. Numbers are still significantly down compared to a few years back, but at least they're not declining further. The positive way to look at this is as a sign that, contrary to what the naysayers were predicting, building a main event around R-Truth didn't flop. The negative way to look at this is to realize that we may well be in store for more of those painfully unfunny skits spliced with Obama footage.

The Cena vs. Truth angle was a really good storyline to sell the PPV, so it stands to reason that this is the best of the worst. Still, I really hope this was a one-time only deal and will be phased out next year.

It's getting like a pattern, thankfully a good pattern for the WWE.
Buyrate annihilation predicted by some parts of the IWC, ends up being actually up on the previous year.
Fingers crossed for MitB, that's the biggie.

I find that many of the people proclaiming doom and gloom for WWE are UFC fans who trash WWE at every chance. Looking at those numbers, WWE is very healthy and in some respects show some growth over last year. I'd also say that if Wrestlemania can catch on next year, we could see a massive buy rate.

I was one of the people that said CP would get a lower rating than OTL. I was wrong I hold my hands up.
But if CP gets a higher rating than MITB.....god help us.

Hopefully, the lesson they take away from this is that good things happen when they build up a midcarder as a threat to the champion.

Go figure: The WWE offered a PPV, with a unique main event (Cena/Truth), that hasn't been done 2, 3, or 7 times on PPV....
And people bought it!

No conspiracy can stop the BUYZ!
And that's the truth! Little Jimmy can't buy PPVs, but everybody else can.

I'm surprised. I begrudged paying the equivalent of $25 for it, and that was with friends chucking money in too.

Glad that it did well, but under no circumstances can I condone fake Obama.

Dave Meltzer has it only doing 83,000 domestic, making it the fourth worst performing WWE PPV of all time.

Capitol Punishment had a pretty strong card in terms of one on one matches built by feuds/stakes. I was really excited for the show, but felt it under-delivered badly.

Sorry for being a negative nancy, but I refuse to believe that a card THAT mediocre would draw bigger numbers then a PPV which had Edge vs. Orton and Cena vs. Batista on it last year.
I'm going to wait until August 4th when the official numbers come out in the quarterly report. If it turns out it did do a better buyrate, I'll eat my words.
