So, apparently Brent Albright debuts on Smackdown this week as Gunner Scott...and gets a fluke win over Booker T and a promo alongside Benoit.
AND he doesn't have a ridiculous gimmick!
I've heard nothing but good things about Albright, and it sounds like WWE creative finally applied the idea of "less is more" to a promising OVW talent. Maybe because Lashley has been so successful as little more than a gimmickless monster...
Thought I'd make a post about this because the news of Albright's debut has been lost amidst the KOTR stuff, especially since he has that new name.

It sounds like he doesn't have a silly gimmick as predicted by many (including myself). Glad he got the win over Booker.T, even if it's a flash pin.
Hopefully, he is bound for greatness and Smackdown seems more suited for someone like him, whereas Raw is heavy on the "entertainment" aspect.
Maybe Punk is coming up soon too as he worked a dark match and I think Colt Cabana (who should be called up/signed before Punk,IMO) worked a match with Matt Hardy.

I haven't seen much of Albright but from what I have seen and heard he looks awesome. So I really hope he has a great future and the WWE uses him well. Smackdown is just stacked with talent right now, I'm starting to follow it more then I do RAW.

Not many have a silly gimmick though so its no suprise. To me, some of them are, like Eugene, who was a techinical wizard from what I understand in OVW, then gets the gimmick he has now. I was thinking they would do something along those same lines to Brent Albright, so I am surprised.

I have heard he is Good. And I hope he has a good run n the WWE.
I just hope that WWE don't F it up by giving him Tourettes' Syndrome or something.

Not many have a silly gimmick though so its no suprise. 1. Umbunga (did I get that right?) 2. Boogeyman (Although it's entertaining, it's still silly). 3. Dalip Singh (The E's making him "I"m big. GRR. Be scare of me. GRR). 4. Spirit Squad (They are silly, and their gimmick is supposed to be silly). On the other hand: 1. Ken Kennedy (The guy is actually quite silly, but he doesn't have a silly gimmick). The Undertaker's gimmick is quite silly and that turned out okay Yeah, so did Goldust, The Model, and IRS. But for everyone that suceeded, more have failed.

The Undertaker's gimmick is quite silly and that turned out okay Of course, there are exceptions, but they don't all work. Sometimes a good straight-up wrestler every now and then works just as well. Then again he might start out like Snitsky did as a regular wrestler and then he may start punting babies or shaving kittens mid-ring or something, lol.

Yeah, so did Goldust, The Model, and IRS. But for everyone that suceeded, more have failed. You can say the same for "sensible" gimmicks. What works works. Its just that in 1990 UT was debuted to a wrestling audience more willing to accept stuff like that. These days he'll be slaughtered and have one hundred and sixty-four sarcastic 'Apprecation Threads' and everyone would end their posts with a long dramatic pause effective by holding down the enter button and typing 'Rest In Peace' at the bottom.

Obviously, with a name like Gunner Scott, he'll have some sort of crappy Sniper gimmick. There. I ruined it for you all

We'll see how it works out, sounds good to me. I'm glad to see he's finally given a shot in the WWE as his work in OVW has been exceptional, his matches with Ken Doane (Kenny from Spirit Squad) were awesome last fall.

Gunner Scott will become 'Gonna Scott' (Gonna as in 'Going to') and he'll join the Spirit Squad as their chief motivational speaker with the tagline 'Scot's Gonna - are you?"

I disagree. Sensible gimmicks tend to have a longer shelf life because they are more fleixible and allowe people to adapt. Also, what was sensible was not exactly the same thing. During the Undertaker's time, Kayfabe was still alive. Since Kayfabe was broken, most, if not all, gimmicks that require huge amounts of suspension of reality (even more than usual) just flew out the window. Those just would not work anymore. Th reason why the boogeyman and guldust work is because they AREN'T supposed to be taken seriously. You are supposed to laugh at them, granted, if they are funny (and many times they are). The Undertaker gimmick WAS sensible at time it was done. Heck, it was actually of the better gimmicks and more reasonable gimmicks compared to the rest of the stuff during the Undertaker's early years as the Undertaker. At least he didn't have to wear a giant naked suit (ugh).

3. Dalip Singh (The E's making him "I"m big. GRR. Be scare of me. GRR). you can't even call this gimmick silly... the man is a legit 7'1"... what else are you going to do with him? make him a high flyer?... that's like saying "a fat guy in wrestling should never sit on anybody, because that's silly"...

Agreed on the first point. The second point? Hell yeah, you shouldn't sit on anyone anymore.

This could be a really good start for Albright. I hear nothing but great things about him so its great to finally see him on the main show. Its also nice that he might be mentored by Chris Benoit which will only help him out.
