I got real concerned that Ric Flair had finally done something his 57-year-old body couldn't handle on Sunday when he took that bad bump off the ladder and both refs immediately threw up the "X" signal, which everyone who knows anything about wrestling knows means, "this is a real injury, get the paramedics out here!" Or at least it used to. Is there anyone else getting sick of them using the "X" signal as a work?

I think that if Ric did the spot and WASN'T hurt, they are going to pull him out just in case and then refs can check on him.

I don't think the X means anything anymore. It used to signify a real injury. They throw up the X sometimes to make smaert fans think an injury is real. I believe that out of the last 5 times I have seen the X thrown up, the injury was worked. In one case, it was even a heel wrestler faking the injury to play possum and steal a win.
My cousin used to be a paramedic, and one time he worked a WWE show. When one of the wrestlers got hurt for real, there was no X. My cousin said that his boss basically just called them to the ring and said that the guy (it was Eddie, actually) was really hurt.

If the WWE keeps giving away it's secrets like this X thing, soon there will be no secrets left!
So, does anyone know what the new, legit signal is for when a guy is hurt legit?

I have no problems using th "X" sign to try and sell worked injuries. Afterall wrestling is to it's core an attempt (granted it's often a poor attempt) to recreate violence and make it as realistic and believeable as possible. If the "X" sign is considered an indication of a serious injury among fans then i think its only logical they capitalise on it.

I knew it was a work only because Ric Flair left willingly with the referees. If Ric could still stand on one leg I don't think he'd leave. Especially at Wrestlemania.

Who could forget the 'X' signal when Kevin Nash glided through the ring but couldn't make it all the way?

I've somehow never noticed an "X" except for after Mark Henry doing the table spot on the Undertaker a few weeks ago

From now on, whenever someone is really hurt, the medics should do the "YMCA" signals.

I think this will be the new direction of kayfabe, blurring the line again so that even smarks can't tell what's real and what's a work.

They threw up the X at the house show that Booker T hurt his leg at. At least sometimes it's not a work.

Who could forget the 'X' signal when Kevin Nash glided through the ring but couldn't make it all the way? God, I busted a gut at that memory! And living in Atlanta, I get to see Kevin Nash pushing for some local chiropractor on TV!!!

It's funny, I always look for the X thinking it's legit, but then I always start thinking it's a work right after. I never know what to think, so I guess they succeeded that way
