Until they get some half-decent commentators, or so I believe.
I mean, JR's announcing was a big part of what made alot of the memorable Attitude moments...well...memorable.
Likewise I can't imagine WWF in the late 80's early 90's without Monsoon and Heenan calling the action.
The commentators are a big part of what sells the story, essentially being the narrators of every show and PPV, and quite frankly I can't ever imagine any big, memorable moments with Booker, Lawler, and Cole calling the action.

I was thinking this the other night.
Imagine Vince crying with "Oh my God! Triple H is in charge! Vince is gone! What's gonna happen!" etc etc.
Instead of silence.

The difference now is that when something big DOES happen (show-closing moments, anyway) the commentary, thankfully, stops.
Way to ruin any potential great moment? Have Booker talk garbage through it. God, that's a frightening thought.

These are my thoughts as well. It's hard to believe WWE are on the brink of reaching new heights in popularity with commentary this dull and subdued. If they can't bring emotion into Cena/CM Punk it's pretty well a lost cause.

JR was inactive for a lot of the Attitude Era. But I agree that JR is one of the best ever, and his absence is unnecessary.

Commentators do not sell tickets or create boom periods. Competition does. I would worry about maybe establishing some managers before I would worry about commentators

I might be alone on this but if you listen back to old Michael Cole commentary he used to be pretty awesome too. He did a good job calling Foley/Rock I quit match, though I remember hearing JR was producing Cole through those days so maybe that's why. I can't quite remember his work on Smackdown but I don't recall hating it so much as I do now. Granted, it's not just Michael Cole. I feel like it's not necessarily the commentators, but Vince McMahon as to why commentary stinks so bad. Just the robotic, soulless commentary is so widespread now that I can only imagine it's by design.

I have to agree. A recent example was Cole and Lawler's 'commentary' when Triple H came out on Raw this week, it was embarrasing. Cole: ''Ladies and Gentlemen, thats Triple H!'' Lawler: ''No kidding'' Seriously? Nearly as bad as ''Its.......Christian''

I wouldn't mind if Cole, Matthews, and Styles commentated every event. Who says we need a ring vet to do commentary, especially when they all stink? Get Nash in there and maybe we'll have something, he's a natural. Hell, even HBK would be better than King and Booker...that's it, why not HBK and Diesel?

Josh Matthews does a good job IMO and Cole is fine when he tones down the obnoxious heel act and just calls the action.

Josh Matthews is the best commentator they have, but King and Cole are always butting and saying stupid things that its hard to notice him.
Everytime Matthews starts to speak up my girlfriend would say, "Why don't they let him talk more? He actually sounds like a real announcer and not just some guy over acting."

Didn't see him do any last Raw. Ya know there's also a show called Smackdown. The thing is as long a Vince is around, it will be hard to get anyone that doesn't become like Michael Cole. I'm pretty sure the reason that Cole and King have been kept on Raw for such a long time is because they are the best at parroting what Vince is yelling to them in the headsets. I don't know how hands on Vince is on Superstars commentary, but I would imagine if Scott Stanford moved to Raw, he would be saying the same things that Cole says, just in his voice. When Vince wasn't producing Cole, back on NXT, he was able to let his personality shine through, and it was fun.
