He was ready to break out.
Then he had his feud with Taker and, from what I've gleamed, apparently didn't kiss Calloway's ring (or fanny) enough, or in the right way, and Punk got the rug pulled out from under him.
Took a couple of years for him to climb out of the grave and finally shine the way he is right now.
So did EgoTaker play a huge role in keeping what may be the brightest talent on the roster from reaching his potential, or at least delaying CMP's rise to the top?

Come on, man.
What is this, a witch hunt looking for all enemies of Punk and burning them at the stake?

Thats tough to prove man because alot of things effect when it is your turn. Creative might have wanted to do something more with Carlito or Umanga or the Divas or Hornswagle ect. It may have had nothing to do with UT. Though yes, if you are new you should kiss the ring(he deserves it IMO) it's like that in a whole lot of the world. You come in to a new job/workcenter ect. you keep your head down, contribute and pay respect/deference to the established veterans. Nothing wrong with that IMO

I think he absolutely crushed his momentum. If he looked like just a little bit of a threat, then Punk being an undeniable main eventer would've happened sooner. To the people who said that after he defeated Hardy that he already was, nuh-uh. He wasn't even on the TLC PPV.

Sometimes things just don't line up its not some singular force keeping everyone down.. Its likely better that his rise was slower anyway. I say things worked out.

I wouldn't be surprised. Just like I won't be surprised if Punk pulls the same crap when he's on top. Pro-wrestling just does that to people.

Not really. Once Punk won the Hardy feud, he basically became "The Jericho". A guy who could maintain his heat in the midcard and seamlessly be inserted into the main event when necessary.

I think losing the belt to Taker and becoming an afterthought for a while hurt Punk. He came off a red hot feud with Jeff Hardy and lost alot of momentum when he lost to Taker... than Rey... then Big Show... SES could have been alot better with some gold to show that they were better than us.

Undertaker did not bury Punk. Their gimmicks/styles do not mesh well.

I don't think Taker was burying Taker, but I think he was the tool used to stop Punk's momentum for whatever reason. Taker's always been known for bringing guys up, not holding them down. In fact I think it was Mr. Anderson who said in his shoot interview that the WWE was like 2 mountains. On top of Smackdown's mountain is the Undertaker, and he's throwing down ropes to help people up the mountain, and on RAW there were people at the top trying to stop you from going up the mountain.
I don't think Taker's that kind of guy to hold someone down.

CM Punk beat Undertaker in a submission match. No, he was not buried.

Yeah, it's threads like these that are the reasons why CM Punk Fans tend to get mocked.

I blame Justin Credible above anyone else.
He obviously didn't do nearly enough to make Punk's debut completely perfect.

I'm talking about this (and say what you will, Punk's momentum came to a complete halt around this time):
Backstage Heat On CM Punk After Incident With Undertaker
Posted on Monday, October 5, 2009 at 1:16 pm
Word going around the WWE locker room is that the reason CM Punk lost the World Heavyweight Title last night is because of heat on him stemming from an incident on the recent European tour, according to Dave Meltzer’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
The story goes that there was in issue with how Punk was dressed, and The Undertaker tried to nicely tell Punk that he was the World Champion and was representing WWE overseas so he should dress better. Punk said something to the effect of "What about John Cena?"
This got back to WWE management and they took it as Punk thinking he was a bigger star than John Cena. Then the decision was made to take the belt off Punk at Hell in a Cell and put the match as the opener. There are a couple versions of the story going around, but which ever one is being told, the end result remains the same.
The problems with Punk has been the talk of the SmackDown locker room for the past two days. There are some who are wondering why Undertaker was given the title considering his limited schedule and health problems with the feeling that it was too soon to take the title off Punk.
UPDATE: Jim Ross has commented on this situation in his latest JRsBarBQ.com blog, writing, ‘Crazy email….CM Punk lost the World’s Title because of a “dress code” violation. Please, stop the pain.
