They haven't though, edited him out I mean; at least not to the extent you're talking about. They just, WISELY, choose not to focus on a dude who by his own actions ruined his own legacy.

I'll say waht I always do, Keep him for historical purposes, Don't go out of your way to praise or condem him. Exactly. Yes he did a terrible thing at the end of his life, but it shouldn't take away the good memories we have of him. And again I must point out all those great, memorable moments he brought us became part of the reason he snapped. I mean...how can you not cringe watching him doing a flying headbutt or taking an unprotected chairshot after hearing about the brain autopsy?

Random question: Do the DVDs he is featured on include his Our Lady Peace theme? The only recent DVD I have with any Benoit content worth mentioning is the Satan's Prison (or for you non-US'ers Iron Will), and his entrance is completely unedited.

Sadly the attitude is still very much there, as evidenced by Randy Orton asking for his SummerSlam 04 title win to be included on his DVD, and WWE telling him no.

Considering that everyone here points to the headbutt as one of the main causes of his head trauma and no less an authority than Harley Race says he wishes he never came up with it due to the damage it does to your neck/head, you'd think that there would be outrage over anyone using it. But that's neither here nor there.

I only wish they could edit Benoit off of people's brains, let alone DVDs.

I only wish they could edit Benoit off of people's brains, let alone DVDs. Me too. I hate that he ever existed. Because what he did to his kid and wife is inexcusable, yet some people act like WWE are the bad guys in the situation for editing him off of most DVDs. I'm actually more outraged when stuff featuring the guy gets left in.

Personal opinion time!
I agree with ToyfareMark's provisos.....they seem fair to most of a degree, so as not to villify or praise Benoit, but take the very mature attitude of "This man existed, we employed him, and before he committed a heinous act he was part of this part of history" But the one match thing seems a possibly restrictive, especially if they tried to do a Booker T set eventually (King Booker Run as well as the Best of 5 series)

People will ALWAYS call for him to be in the HOF, there's signs of it at least once every month. With Benoit, it doesn't matter what WWE does, they're always wrong, and that's sad to think.

The NFL doesn't ignore the fact OJ Simpson existed... they don't try to highlight him, but they don't ignore games he played in. They don't blur or beep his name out... that's the right way to handle it in my opinion

It's apples and oranges for the OJ/Benoit comparison though; as OJ had already been retired for DECADES before those murders; plus as great a talent as he was at running back, all of his stats have been surpassed and he was never on a great or championship team, so the NFL doesn't have to really feature him in any real way anyway, unless it was some kind of 'greatest running back' footage, which even then he'd only get a mention, as again, he's been surpassed many times over.
With Benoit, you had someone who was under their employ at the time and a pretty heavy part of programming for about a decade he was employed by them; so it was then a bit tougher to not have a mention of him etc. As the years pass, and his memory fades more and more ( cuz let's be real here, as good in the ring as he was, his career on its own was never gonna be that of a Top Ten guy), the hubbub about his being 'erased' will fade too.

They don't blur or beep his name out... that's the right way to handle it in my opinion In the eyes of the law, OJ didn't do anything. Well, technically in the eyes of the law he stole a bunch of shit, but he didn't kill anyone. He probably did, and the court of public opinion believes he did, but he wasn't convicted of anything on that count. By that logic, Ray Lewis killed a guy, and he's freaking CELEBRATED by the NFL, but didn't do any jail time for it. But that's all neither here nor there. ANYWAY, I wish they had Benoit matches on, just because I don't care, as the tragedy didn't affect me personally. It was wrong, obviously, don't get me wrong, but I don't really, like, care all that much. This isn't a popular opinion, I know. He was an integral part of wrestling history and all. They most certainly don't need to make new shirts for him, or put him in video games or the hall of fame or action figures, but they can certainly put him on compilations and shit.

See I'd argue that he wasn't really even all that integral.
He had a really good career, but it's not like he was Hogan, Flair, etc.

ehh..ok, he wasn't all that integral from a name standpoint, per se. He was integral from a "This guy always put on fantastic f***ing matches" standpoint. I mean, he had probably one of THE most memorable wrestlemania moments, if not the most memorable one, at the end of 20...he won a royal rumble...er...
Yeah youre right. He didn't really do a whole hell of a lot besides wrestle really really f***ing good. That really shouldn't be understated though
