I managed to get a copy of "Hard Knocks: The Chris Benoit Story" in a video store long after it had been pulled. Great story and a shame that his life turned out the way it did.
Though he has been virtually non-existant in any DVD release since his 'death', you do see glimpses of him now and again in some shots.
Now watching the WCW DVD - I saw the one match with the NwO run in where they attacked the Horsemen, though I noticed they edited any comment about Benoit out of the commentary.
When I got up to the return of the Horseman - I almost did a spit take when I heard Arn say he spoke to Chris Benoit! Then they actually showed him! Edited down yes, but there he was.
And guess what. There were no mass riots, planets flying out of orbit, dogs and cats living together!
So maybe WWE can learn from this and finally let go and stop editing Benoit out of their history like he never existed.

The Four Horsemen segment isn't edited except for swear words.

If only Kevin Sullivan hadn't of commited the act and set up that Benoit did it! That evil sonofabitch! *ahem* but Benoit's been left in most DVDs and stuff, just not advertised. McMahon never ever removed him more than he had to from products to me. If he had of removed him completely I wouldn't of blamed him as the PR from the event battered the WWE for a bit, but he didn't. *shrug* I feel the Benoit edits were alright, just most smark new sites convinced people it was a worse crime than the actual tragedy.

I thought I'd seen him during a commercial for the "Greatest Cage Matches" DVD set. If they have begun to include his matches in the compilations, they may well be testing the waters. Again, given what's been presented about what happened, it wouldn't be bad PR for Vince to donate a portion of the sales of Benoit content (or merchandising) to charity.

Benoit has still been cut from the various episodes of Nitro on 24/7 however. But I dunno when they actually did that editing. It might have been one big edit right after he did what he did. As far as DVDs go, I don't think WWE can really cut him out of entire PPVs since it would be a bogus product to sell since it would be edited for no truly legit reason.

Random question: Do the DVDs he is featured on include his Our Lady Peace theme?

Well I'm definetly one for Benoit being included for historical purposes, as long as harsh in hindsight stuff is cut. I don't watch his matches as they leave a sour taste in my mouth.

To the OP, why do you have his name in inverted commas? Are you somehow implying his death was false?

Though I honestly wondered at the time if Pillman's death wasn't some sort of sick angle, as he was known to do some odd stuff.

I'll say what I do all the time, if they were really trying to edit him completely out of their history, they did a piss poor job since they never removed him from the title history on their website, or ignored the fact that he worked and won titles with them.

I've got all the Benoit matches I could ever need or want to see, so I don't care anymore.

This was an idea I had that I originally put out somewhere else, I'll just put it here as well.
My thoughts on the matter are pretty simple.
Keep him in the title histories as they do now, don't mention him or anything like that. At least on their programming, website, or magazine.
However if a WWE Superstar really REALLY wants to have one of their matches with Benoit put on a DVD of theirs, then it should be allowed...with a couple of conditions.
1. WWE puts a warning sticker or some such on the shrinkwrap of the DVD warning that Chris Benoit footage does appear at the wrestlers request.
2. Any WWE performer who chooses to have a Chris Benoit match on their set must give up a small share of the their royalties to go to a charitable organization. By small share I mean like maybe 1 to 3 percent, and the charity has to be one that would deal with subjects pertaining to the Benoit incident. Like maybe the Sports Legacy Institute, or child abuse, spousal abuse, Something along those lines. The charity being donated to would also be put on the warning.
3. You only get to pick one match.
Thats how I would handle it. I know in a sense its promoting him with the warning and all, but that warning also tells you that proceeds are going to a cause to try to keep what he did from happening again.
Just doing a little thinking outside the box.

I wonder if they could include any relevant Benoit matches as unadvertised Easter eggs.
