I remember JBL and Batista havnig some of the most awful title matches I had ever seen. Orton/Taker wasn't that good considering the great match they'd had at Wrestlemania. Crowd was on fire during the Jericho/Cena match - which I believe was around the start of the broad hatred of Cena by older fans.

Not really a great PPV to be honest, Rey vs Eddie is probably the best thing on it and that's filled with botches and an awful storyline.
And I didn't mind the Batista JBL match, it wasn't great but better than there GAB Match.

Cena vs. Jericho was probably match of the night. I also liked Hulk Hogan vs. Shawn Michaels, even though Shawn oversold a lot during that match.

JBL was like the posterchild for horrible Summerslam title matches. 2004 vs Taker, 2005 vs Batista, 2008 vs Punk...

JBL was like the posterchild for horrible Summerslam title matches. 2004 vs Taker, 2005 vs Batista, 2008 vs Punk... Not like Batista was much better his matches with Booker at 06 and Khali at 07 were equally awful packed with terrible finishes.

I consider this to be the last great SummerSlam, where the event was number 2, only behind Mania. Look at the build that went into so many of those matches.
SummerSlam these days is no different from any other PPV as far as I'm concerned.

I was saddened they didn't include the Montreal promo in the DVD release, but at least they put it in the last HBK DVD. Sadly, that promo was better than anything on this show, but the promo itself was a ******, if 6 stars was even possible.
I will say the ladder match had some funny goofups "Where the f*** is Vickie?" and the Cena/Jericho match truly proved the divide of the fans. Still a good event.

The Montreal promo isn't on DVD. Larry Bling Live is.

The Montreal promo isn't on DVD. Larry Bling Live is. The Montreal promo is on the HBK DVD "My Journey" to cap off disc 2.

Decent show, though nothing spectacular. HBK/Hogan, Cena/Jericho, Orton/Taker and Guerrero/Mysterio were all good; Batista/JBL was forgettable, as was Angle/Eugene (sad that was Kurt's last Summerslam match); Hardy/Edge would have been great, had it not been stopped abruptly (though understandably); Benoit/Jordan was hilarious!

That was the moment I knew that they Edge-Hardy angle had been fumbled.
It was still hot as hell going into SummerSlam, but having Matt get pummeled to the point of having the match stopped did no favors to the feud.
If anything, it would have made better sense if it was the other way around. But I think some kind of double DQ would have worked far better. The ref looses control of them and they brawl all over, match gets thrown out.
I've always felt like while the cage match win at Unforgiven was good for Matt, it was already to little, to late on that feud.

This PPV had a lot of potential. It was solid, but not as good as it could've been.

The crowd reaction during Kurt/Eugene was hilarious.
