This is just an idea on how the current wwe title picture could pan out, tell me what you think.
At Summerslam Triple H turns heel by costing CM Punk the match by favouring Cena in his officiating in some way.
It is revealed that he was driven by his partiality to the establishment and keeping Cena as the face of the company and also by the fact that CM Punk keeps insulting him.
Punk loses the match but keeps his heat because he was cheated out of a victory.
Cena remains face as he voices his disgust at Triple H using him as a patsy in an act that moralistically clashes with the hustle, loyalty, respect manta.
The next night on raw Rey Mysterio defeats John Cena in San Diego to become the new WWE champion. Great moment, big home town pop etc etc also would make Rey the champion for the tour of Mexico.
What you'd have then would be some interesting dynamics that would make for a great storyline if done right.
Three faces feuding for the WWE title leading into Night Of Champions?
Two faces and one tweener?
One face and two tweeners?
Possibly that would down to individual perspective and fandom but it would all be with a heel at the helm and the relationships between all four would be as such;
The maverick, the rebel, the voice of the voiceless CM Punk, having been held back for years, is now continuing to be held back but this time by a very specific name and face so it's now personal.
Punk now finds an unusual ally in John Cena, the reluctant fitter of the glass ceiling he is trying to break.
Punk's assessment of the new champion Rey Myterio throughout all this is that even though Rey is very much a company face in a similar way to Cena his his route to the top was through hard work.
Rey is not The New York Yankees but is indeed the ultimate underdog and through their matches over the recent years Punk has come to respect Rey for this.
But Rey cannot respect Punk because he sung happy birthday to his daughter.
This is probably would be rubbish now that I think about it but tell me what you think because it took me a while to write!

Its tricky. A lot of it depends on when Del Rio will cash in MITB, and Rey's overall health. Truth be told there's about six guys who I could easily see making up the title scene right now:
-Cena -Punk -Rey -Del Rio -Miz -Truth
It would not surprise me in the least if Summerslam had a whole lot of shenanigans involving some combination of those guys.

Add Morrison to that list to act as random fall guy in case any tag team matches are booked between these six.

Isn't Rey injured? Seems like he's a red herring for next Monday. Whoever wins Sunday is hurt, somehow. HHH says they have to defend against Rey, he comes out, Del Rio jumps him a/la Miz last week, cashes in and wins. Is Cena still banged up? This is a good way to get him off tv a couple of months while he heals up and let Punk chase Del Rio for the title.

Del Rio will kill everyone's heat dead. They need to abort that whole idea. Short of Trips being his spokesman, and then who really cares? Trips himself might as well be the champ.

Rey should be feuding with Dolph Ziggler because they could get some amazing matches together and Rey could elevate the status of the US title via Dolph getting some wins over him.

Despite being pushed for months and winning the Rumble and MITB, Del Rio is one of the dullest guys on the roster. Please keep him away from the title for at least a year, the guy is awful IMO.

I don't think he's dull but I don't think he should have got the push the way he did. It speaks for itself, he wins the rumble but Edge was the better choice to go over at Mania, he gets another title shot at Extreme Rules but Christian was the better choice to go over and he could have been world champion now or last month but CM Punk is so much hotter than he is! Obviously it's the guy's destiny to not quite be as good as other potential world title holders!

I think the biggest problem is, how do you get the strap on him, without him sitting there in the corner, wearing the belt, during Trips' promos?
It's a total waste, and if it's going to be that way, have Trips win the belt and then have him use his position in the company as a means of "protecting" him in the ring and from having to work too much, etc...

Del Rio shouldnt touch the title for a LONG time. He has zero heat at the moment. They ruined a great thing with him. He just seems like one of many stuck in the midcard at the moment, which is a shame considering the Smackdown crowds HATED him.

Those saying they should keep del Rio away from the belt, the problem is that he has the briefcase. He's gonna be involved some way. Either he wins the title, which would result in complete apathy, or he cashes in and loses, which only a handful of people could do with their credibility being entirely destroyed, del Rio not being one of them. They never should have given him the damn briefcase in the first place. They booked themselves into a hole with that.
