There are guys out there who start off with a bad gimmick who you think at first would never make it to the top, but ended up doing so. Here are my picks: -Chris Jericho- Well, he may have had that great debut, but I thought that he would just be in the mid-card for his whole WWE career because he was in the mid-card in WCW. He did win the undisputed title but was back in the mid-card, but he did go back into the main event scene after his return in 2007. -Chris Benoit- He was a great wrestler, yes, but was poor on the mic. He was in the main event scene in 2000, but only briefly. Then came his world title reign in 2004, but even that was sort of meaningless. -Steve Austin- When you first saw the Ringmaster, did you think he would ever main event Wrestlemania? He changed to Stone Cold, had that KOTR 1996 promo and that program with Bret Hart and the rest was all history. -The Rock- Rocky Maivia would never main event. He proved everyone wrong in 1998. -Eddie Guerrero- I was not watching much during his WWE title reign, but when I saw that he was champion on Smackdown in 2004, I was a little surprised, because he was a mid-carder in both his WCW days and WWE days prior to 2004.
Who are your picks?

CM Punk - thought he'd make it to midcard and just stay there. Never dreamed he be main eventing. Always thought he had the skills just figured they wouldn't push him.
Rey Mysterio - Always figured with his size they'd keep him midcard
Dudley Boyz - saw them in ECW and was wondering how they would work if they had to tone down their act in WWF. I'd say they did just fine.

The only main event pushes I can honestly say surprised me were Eddie Guerrero and JBL, and with Eddie my skepticism had more to do with his personal problems than his size. Both guys more than proved their worth in the end.

Bradshaw and Eddie were the most shocking for me. Both around the same time period too!

Yeah, I gotta say Eddie and JBL as well. I stopped watching when they were both just midcarders and the APA was still around then I saw JBL as champ one day and was like 'Who the devil is that?', only to find out it was Bradshaw.

Eddie surprised me in a good way. I had always enjoyed his work. So seeing him win the title was just icing on the cake.
JBL surprised me in a bad way. It just felt rushed and thrown together to me. Eventually he did grow on me and he played the part well. But I would have let the character develop a lot longer before throwing the title on him.

Eventually he did grow on me and he played the part well. But I would have let the character develop a lot longer before throwing the title on him. My problem was that he went from APA member to millionaire seemingly in a week with little or no character development. They could have had him win the lottery, or at least give a half-assed storyline explanation why he went from beer-drinking hick to millionaire. Beyond that, I thought he played the character fine.

Edge, Miz, Triple H.
I'll stop - pretty much everyone with the exception of the big guys like Taker and Nash/Show.

Never thought they'd give him the chance. So glad they did.

R-Truth
Before he turned heel I actually thought he'd be in the next batch of Future Endeavors. I never would have thought he'd enter the world title scene.

I never saw Eddie as a main event guy at all until 2003 probably.
JBL I never thought of as main event period but he proved me wrong and I also didn't think Christian would ever get there.
I'm also pretty sure most people didn't see The Miz ever getting to the main event in his early years.
