A lot of people complain about how big the NWO got and felt that they should have kept the member count down.
What number of guys should they have stopped at?
I honestly think they should have stopped at Vincent who I believe was member number 7.
Then it would have been Hogan Hall Nash The Giant Ted DiBiase(money backer) Syxx Vincent(head of security)
I think they could have added some more later like Bagwell and Steiner but a lot of the jobber guys were just filler.

Hogan, Hall, Nash, Giant, Syxx and DiBiase... that's all it needed
adding Vincent was a sign of things to come

I agree it should have stopped with the first 6 guys.
Though I looked forward to every week when the NWO would be beating down WCW wrestlers and then "wrestler x" would run in with Tony Shivone screaming "thank God for 'Wrestler X'!" who would then promptly join in the beating of WCW as the newest NWO member.

Let's see: The Big Three, of course, Scott Steiner, either Macho Man or the Giant, but not both at once, Syxx, Ted Dibiase as the manager, Big Bubba replacing Vincent as Head of Security, the nWo Sting, Masahiro Chono as nWo Japan/Typhoon's rep, Nick Patrick as their ref, their own announcer, and Eric Bischoff.
Maybe Bryan Adams or Scott Norton (but not both) for a enforcer/token jobber role. But, that's the fat that can be easily cut.

Now I know why you hated the BDK so much. Nine guys was entirely too many guys.

well, considering they were against the entire company it did seem like it needed to be big. They just never should have had them standing all IN the ring.
I will say 20 wrestlers, big enough they could have had their own WW3 ring. But only one or two mouth pieces/valet types. Say just Eric and Liz.

I think expanding any faction beyond the core members is always a risk. With each additional member you dilute its strength and purpose. They should have restricted it to the 'Big 3' with perhaps an addition of a younger guy to give the group 'legs'.

Hmmm... it's hard to say. Sucky guys like Vincent, Stevie Ray, the rest of the nWo b-team could be done without... but for guys like Buff Bagwell and Scott Steiner, it breathed new life into their careers.

I count official members as the one who wrestle. So I say no more than 5.
Hogan Hall Nash Hennig Syxx With Ted DiBiase as manager.

It still boggles my mind why they'd even let the WCW job squad join them. If it didn't do something huge for their career (ala Buff Bagwell or Scott Steiner), then they shouldn't have been members. The nWo should have just laughed in their faces and kicked their asses. I blame Bischoff and his "We're going to make the nWo a whole separate promotion" crap. I know promotions need their jobbers, but damn...

Keep it at the original six with Hogan, Hall, Nash, Dibiase, The Giant and Syxx. But they have hanger's on, recruits who are working to join the group and do the grunt work for the six. Only the six get to where the nWo colors, the rest just wear black. Maybe totally 15(six included) people working together to take over WCW.
It can't be so small or how can it be actually believable as a threat not just taking over control but being physically intimidating when they are outnumbered. Instead of others joining after that, WCW signs an armistice or cease-fire with nWo and that's when they introduce it as WCW/nWo. Sting remains the lone guy still fighting WCW.

It's better to have it pretty big, if it's just five or six then you don't legitimately think they're going to take over the company. When there's like twenty of them that threat becomes more real

Perhaps the question should be "how small the NWO should have been."
Anyway, another way to look at it would be to have enough people to compete for each title. In this case:
Hogan = WCW Champion
Hall/Nash = Tag Team Champions
Syxx = Cruiserweight Champion
Giant = US Champion
(blank) = Television Champion
Have Bischoff and Dibiase as the mouth pieces, and we're good.

6 guys...2 tag teams, 1 strictly a tag team, 1 that also work as singles (Outsiders), 1 strictly singles guy (Hogan), and a manager/finacial backer (Dibiase)

Hogan (July 96) Hall & Nash (July 96) NWO Sting (Aug. 96) DiBiase (Sept. 96) Syxx (Sept. 96) Macho Man (Oct. 96) Bischoff (Oct. 96) Norton (Dec. 96) Buff & S.Steiner (early 97)
thats about it...it's hard to dominate WCW with only 5,6 guys around, do you realize that?
