I thought about this. I used to complain when MTV stopped playing videos so much and dedicated only a few hours a day to them.
But really, I'm 36 and I know if they ever went back to playing videos, there wouldn't be any old Van Halen clips or the Cars etc. Maybe if they had a classics block 1 hour a day, but otherwise, they're not here to entertain my age group.
So I really wouldn't watch even then. Would you? And what is your age by the way?

Do bands even make videos any more? I mean, something other than the song played over alternating clips of the band on stage and crowd shots.
I'm also 36, and wouldn't watch.

Maybe... I legitimately have no idea what music is popular right now though, so it depends. I used to wake up early and watch MTV around... Hmm, maybe 2003? 2004? When Maroon 5 had a lot of songs coming out, it was around then. And Jet, too. And I think Kelly Clarkson had some songs, I know Breakaway came out during that time. I liked a lot of the music that was on during that time period. I just ignored anything I didn't like. I mean, it wasn't music that I usually would listen to on my own time for the most part (I did buy a Jet CD though and Maroon 5 will always be awesome to me), but it was enjoyable enough for me and when any of those songs come on I smile and think back to myself at that age.
So who knows, maybe I'd enjoy whatever music is out there today.

I'm one of those advocates for just leaving the two separate. Usually I like the image a song leaves in my head and the story that plays out more than what the video does. There's some songs I love for the serious story they tell and all that, and then the video is a gigantic friggin joke.

The music I listen to isn't the kind that would be played on MTV anyway, so no.

I like some mainstream stuff but I honestly have no interest whatsoever in watching music videos for crappy pop stars all day.
to me MTV is garbage anyways so just keep it how it is.
I'm 22 and a big time rap fan, but not the kind thats on MTV. Jay and Kanye maybe but thats it.

when people complain about the programming of MTV its because its vapid and stupid. There is nothing on there that seems to be redeeming. Older MTV had not just music videos but a focus on music based shows that focuses on bands and genres. Now its just reality shows that focus on stupid people or uninteresting people or both. And the non music shows there were at least some good shows and some lifestyle shows that the teen mind wants to know about.
Again its the f***ing reality crap that I hate hate hate.

19 here, and for the most part I enjoy today's music. That being said, if MTV played videos I wouldn't watch, considering that I could go to YouTube and find what I wanted in a few seconds. It's for that reason that it would be stupid of MTV to continue playing music videos, it would serve no purpose at all.

I still think there could be an audience for a showcase show where they show videos of bands that music companies want to make big. Just wrap it around something interesting and not just make it music videos

In the U.K we have MTV and now MTV Music so thats basically MTV's way of saying 'hey you want music? We'll give it to you but we still want OUR MTV'
And no I don't watch it because for the most part I can't stand mainstream pop music but it should still be a music channel nonetheless.

I just wanna know who the demographic is for the shit they've got now. I mean even the network acknowledges that it shows some sleazy shit.

No. All the music I enjoy can be found back in the 70s,80s and 90s. I much just rather watch/listen to Music Choice.

I'm 25, and I might watch it from time to time. I don't really watch TV as a whole anymore, but I might flip over to MTV every once in awhile. I still love music videos.

If they played videos all day the music industry would be in better shape than it is now. Lack of videos is just one less place for new artists to get discovered and get exposure. The music industry complains about illegal downloading but they never complain about MTV not playing videos and a video on MTV watched by millions of people is free publicity for their artists so it baffles me why they dont go after MTV.

They did but its on MTV2 once a month late at night and they interview multiple artists instead of having 1 or 2 on the whole show in the studio like the used to and yeah it pretty much sucks.

I wouldn't sit in front of the tv all day watching it, but I would certainly watchmore than I do now. I literally have not watched anything on MTV in years.
I do watch VH1 Classic sometimes because they actually play videos a lot, and have That Metal Show.
Maybe they could use their multiple channels to spotlight different music. One would be pop, one hip hop, one for rock, etc.
