It's been more than four years since we had to put my yellow lab, Nestlé, down. It was depressingly the humane solution; renal failure had plagued her and made her last year of life pained and miserable, and the other option was dooming her to a lingering, meandering slow demise, when every move she made visibly pained her. I was going through my photos on my hard drive when I stumbled across a photoset, taken May 21, 2007, in the vet's office, showing the last moments of her life... I suddenly miss her like crazy... Keeping birds is nice, but they still can't fill that emotional void in the same way as a dog...
