The penalties rise SO MUCH MORE when you commit infringement for profit.
I always wondered how these streaming forums could possibly get away with charging people for HQ streams. Guess here is the answer.

Am I the only one who chuckled at the name Mohamed Ali?

That's quite a chunk of money to miss out on.

Am I the only one who chuckled at the name Mohamed Ali? That is pretty hilarious, yes. A 19 year old, though, just a complete waste to get into this kind of stuff.

I guess his work with the Bluths isn't the only impressive thing on Ice's resume.

I really hate to sound like a broken record, but promoters and providers should really be looking into price decreases if they want to curtail piracy.

I've never got the "every person watching illegal stream/downloading music illegally/etc. is a lost sale." The way I see things not every single person doing so would of paid if the illegal way of obtaining wasn't available, some of them just wouldn't of obtained at all.

The damage here is Ali's ill-gotten gains, and not lost sales, IMHO. I've never seen a credible study showing what the actual damage due to piracy is - as you said many people simply would not have bought it at all. This is probably even more true with song downloading. That isn't to say that the copyright holders don't have a right to enforce their copyrights, but to say that they've lost 30 percent of sales due to piracy does seem silly. Any sympathy I may have had for Mr. Ali (which is pretty much none at all) went out the window when he started actually profiting from it.

I agree. It's flawed to think every person watching illegally would order it if the option wasn't there.
And while he did make $6K in profit, think how much he had to spend to get a lot of those. I'm not familiar with the site and the ToS doesn't allow anyone to bring it up, but if they offered that many events, I bet he easily put 1 or 2K in just ordering them. Then again, that should have been the first sign something was messed up. If I noticed on someone's bill that they were ordering each and every PPV event, I would think something fishy was up.
That being said, it's still a pretty major problem and the fact he is turning a profit on it too? If I was the companies that he streamed I'd want him taken down too. This streaming thing is a major problem. Without bending the ToS too far, let me just say those in charge are several steps behind to the point they wanna make laws that can put a lot of people behind bars for minor things if it's interpreted a different way (just look at the hoopla S.978 continues to make, and it's still just a bill).

Those that are mocking companies going after a guy who made 6K off if this need to understand one thing. In this country, if you do not enforce your rights you can lose them. If you are a PPV vender or provider you need to squash every streamer you learn of. If not, then they might find a case where their illicit inactivity in the past will legally prevent them from acting in the future. In a sense, if they do not active curtail someone from violating their copyrights over time that person's financial security can become dependent upon continued violation of the copyrights. It is an ass-backwards imminent domain kind of thing.
Let me put it in another way. Last year when I inherited the old family homestead I had a massive mess to clean up because my mother had become a hoarder and hid it from me (I lived about 1000 miles away). I discovered early on that the property that I supposedly inherited was actually 4.3 acres of prime country real estate. It was less than a mile from 3 lakes, on a good road, less than 5 minutes from a sizable city (Mankato, MN, a.k.a. the big city from Little House on the Prairie), and a few other attractive features (minus the 15-20 tons of hoarder's mess that I first had to clean up). I also figured out quickly that the usable lot was a little over 2 acres short as the neighbors had extended their fields into 2 acres of my property. This was an illegal violation of my rights, but the problem was that my mother was not around to verify that it was a recent violation. Because I had no way to prove that they had not been encroaching the property for 7 years, my lawyer recommended that I not address the issue, sell the property, and let the new owner deal with it. The reason was since I could not prove otherwise in court if the neighbor claimed that he had been using the property for 7 years without protest, I would lose in court and the neighbor would actually be given the land of mine that he had been using. Instead, I sold the land and the new owner would have a much better shot at winning the same court case than I would, especially since his father was a local with some influence and I was an outsider.

I really hate to sound like a broken record, but promoters and providers should really be looking into price decreases if they want to curtail piracy. Especially since the WWE does 12 ppvs a year when most of them aren't needed.
