Remember a couple of years ago when it seemed like everyone was talking about Paris Hilton?
I never really understood why she was such a media darling and seen everywhere (magazines, TV, etc.)
She wasn't exactly the most attractive of those Hollywood-type hotties (little skinny, smallish boobs) and not someone I'd brag about being seen with
Say what you will about the Kardashians, but they're nicer to look at (Kim has a way better body than Paris, and in terms of sisters: Khloe > Nicky Hilton).

And like Matt & Trey said on the commentary for that South Park episode, it would of been fine if she was attractive. But she isn't.

Having a very rich family meant she'd be at locales and parties that the rich and privileged would be at, so she tended to be in the crosshairs of tabloids. From there, the sex tape, and from that, the reality shows, so it came about that way, not entirely different from what happened with Kim Kardashian later on, only she seems to be more of a franchise now.

She was a big part of the whole LA social scene thats why. She was out and about everywhere hitting all the trendy spots. If she didnt go out and worked a regular job then she wouldnt have been so famous. There are plenty of kids from rich parents who are low key and dont like the attention.

Didn't she do some modeling, too? Probably. She isn't my cup of tea entertainment wise, and I do not find her attractive, but I don't have much trouble seeing how she got famous. Every generation gets its share of this sort of thing. |

There are plenty of other socialites out there but they didn't fornicate for the world to see so...they stay on the DL only by comparison.
The sex tape also coincided with the premiere of her new reality show (Simple Life) so it was a one-two punch.

Paris was on the verge of fame for a long time too: her sex tape came out in 2003, and thats when she hit it big, but before then she has a very visible cameo in 2001's Zoolander. I think she even had a line.

She sadly opened doors for so many others. I love Paris and always have and will, but that being said, I didn't set glued to my tv being overexposed to her like the haters did, and I LIKE her, so everyone that didn't pretty much punished themselves.
