Okay..so these girls...
-are pushed mainly on their looks -often under intense pressure to look good (Kristal admitting she didn't eat at all during her WWE run, McCool's rumoured issues) -all botox/cosmetic addicts if former diva Krissy Vaine is to be believed (Jillian and Melina also went REALLY overboard with cosmetic surgery and look a bit freakish now) -usually gone by the time they're 30 -often resented by many in the locker room due to the idea they coasted to a contract -management usually sabotage them in the ring with 1 minute matches and limiting what they do (per Gail Kim and Maria interviews) -don't make huge money anyway, since they don't sell merch, aren't working big matches, especially since WWE canned the playboy deal which did pay well -fans aren't interested in them, even when they do try, see Eve taking a glamslam off the top rope -creative team don't care about them either -seem to get a ton of sexual harrassment if the rumors are true
So WHY does any woman want to get involved in WWE? Sara Del Rey was saying it was her main goal to go there, which is mind-boggling to me.

Even if you aren't getting paid as much as a man, the money you get from working with WWE is way more than you would get paid on the indies (unless you are really in demand).
Also, as you put it, WWE often picks out models who look good to become divas. The handpicked models probably aren't all that concerned that they aren't getting much in-ring time because wrestling was probably never their passion in the first place. I assume some of them consider WWE to be a stepping stone to bigger and better modeling jobs or hell, maybe WWE IS considered a high profile modeling job.

Oh, I think the divas get paid well, but I've said before when you factor in the all surgery often needed and the travel expenses, they aren't THAT well paid. Hence why most ex divas are doing the convention circuit after they leave.

-all botox/cosmetic addicts if former diva Krissy Vaine is to be believed (Jillian and Melina also went REALLY overboard with cosmetic surgery and look a bit freakish now) Erm...I'll agree that it's pretty obvious Jillian had her lips buffed pretty substantially, and if you think Melina's ugly, that's fine, but I can say with total confidence that she hasn't had a bunch of work done like you claim. Look at what she looked like in pics from 10 years ago and then now; other than aging and weighing a little more she doesn't look any different. Better examples to bring up would be Candice or Trish (Trish has said before she got surgery aplenty and Candice had work done years ago, before WWE noticed her), but I do see what you're saying. I think the payscale factor here is being underestimated substantially. That most divas live pretty prosperously should say a lot about how much money they make--even if it's not hand-over-fist a king's ransom, it's definitely enough to pay the bills and put them in a much better standard of living than otherwise. But in the end, it's just a bonus. Look at someone like Mickie James, before WWE gave her a contract to OVW. She was posing nude for spank rags to make ends meet and pay the money so she could train. It wasn't something she liked, but wrestling was something that she liked far more than she disliked having to reduce herself to that. So when WWE sweetened the deal by giving her a contract with them, of course she bit and joined up. She was getting paid way more to do what she enjoyed most of all.

If the WWE can't find a way to develop women wrestlers they may as well just have them as managers and I mean that sincerely. They have taken a division that actually HAD some respect and turned it into a joke.

Eh, I don't think Melina is ugly or anything, but she clearly has had a lot of botox done. Unless there was some toher reason she could barely move her face in her youtube videos.

When you have ginormous cheekbones, a rounder face and a big underslung lip, you're not going to have the same facial mannerisms of someone who looks normal, I'm just saying. It's kind of like how Kelly Kelly frequently looks like she has no eyes despite them being normal-sized--it's just the way her face is shaped and how it moves.

But what if WWE did start pushing Diva merchandise?
What if in Kelly Kelly's last push, she was given a high quality, stylish T'shirt that she wore to the ring and during her promo's. What if they started selling? And then others got Merch? How many girls in the audience do you think you'd see with a Beth Phoenix Headband? Loads is my guess. How many girls would wear Natalya Pink Hair Extensions? In years gone by, Lay-Cool Rhinestone T-shirt??
We only have to see how the WWE have treated Zach Ryder in this respect. Granted his internet show has helped him a great deal, but it took quite a few weeks before his shirts started moving in big numbers.... and then he got more TV time... and then he started selling out of his shirts... and now you cant get turn on Raw without seeing him and he has more merch than most of the roster.
If his merchandise didn't start selling, we'd still be watching Z! True Long Island Story, because that would be the only place we'd be seeing him.
WWE only cares for it's wrestler that make them more money and a lot of the things mentioned above like respect in the locker room, crap storylines and little ring time would just go away if WWE just made an effort and made a Diva t-shirt (Overly Simplified)!

Its all about exposure. There seems to be this idea that you can get into wrestling and parlay that into a acting or media personality career. Stacy seemed to do that but not a lot of others have found that success. Its weird to think that but its likely true for the models at least. I mean around 30 they put you on the clock and your status as eye candy is in question.
Some girls also just love the industry and hate it or not the WWE is the peak of the business.

Which brings up another huge point, being that they should hire female wrestlers from the indies who already love the business, over models who are just getting onto the product.

Kharma's unexpected pregnancy sort of forced them to book around that, and it completely screwed up the division and every diva in it.

They were actually on to something with the Divas of Doom, now we have Natalya jobbing to pretty much everyone. They had AJ and Kaitlyn as the face tag team that was going over. Even the potential split was something decent (even if I was the biggest fan of it).Now we only seem to see AJ jocking D-Bry. It seems as if they don't want to do anything with the Divas, except an obligatory 3 minutes Raw and Smackdown each week.

How many girls in the audience do you think you'd see with a Beth Phoenix Headband? WOW! I had never thought of this as a merch idea, but I've always loved Beth's headbands and would probably buy one in every single colour they made. Also, as soon as they release a decent Kharma shirt, I'm so buying one. I don't accept the idea that the divas have had a terrible year because Kharma wasn't there to put their plans into action. They didn't plan Edge retiring, or any of the various injuries that have happened this year, but they switched it up and made new angles. It's just laziness that causes most of the problems alluded to the in the OP, coupled with terrible hiring practices and a general idiotic dismissal of a division that could make money if handled right.
