Hey fellow FANners, so lately, thinks to glorious world of Nintendo 64 ROMS, I've been playing the f*** out of the old AKI wrestling games.
I have, WCW/NWO World Tour, WCW/NWO Revenge, WrestleMania 2000, No Mercy and Virtual Pro Wrestling 1 and 2.
The first VPW game is basically the Japanese version of World Tour, almost the same roster and everything.
VPW 2 is similar to WM2000, but slightly different.
The only real problem i have with the VPW is they are mostly in Japanese, and i dont speak an iota of it.
Loving the games though.
So, lets discuss them!

I have played those games to death, so much that I really don't even enjoy them anymore unless I have friends to play multiplayer with. Even the mods for No Mercy aren't enough for me anymore. But I will agree, they are all fantastic games. I suppose I could stand to play more VPW 2 since that's the one I played the least (well, besides VPW 1...I didn't see the point since it's basically World Tour), but it's too much of a pain to read the translation guides. IIRC, there was a translation hack for VPW 2 though...now that I think about it, I might wanna look into it.

I was shocked by the huge rosters these games had compared to other wrestling games. I missed out because I grew up on the PSONe wrestling games which were inferior.

I'm glad I had both. The AKI games were miles better, but the PS1 games had their own high points too. None of those high points involved gameplay, but being able to create wrestlers and arenas was a pretty big deal for me back then. *sigh* If only I had known about Fire Pro. I could have been enjoying a super deep wrestling game before the N64 even came out.

well, besides VPW 1...I didn't see the point since it's basically World Tour Actually, VPW is superior to World Tour because it has a much larger roster.

Shout out to Def Jam Vendetta also, one of my old favourites.

VPW also lets you customize the wrestlers. Some of the menus are in english and its great.
VPW 2 is an amazing game, but i cant understand a bit of it.

In Wrestlemania 2000, Chaz had the burning hammer for a back finisher. I just thought that was pretty cool.

I used to play the heck out of WCW/NWO Revenge. I remember re-naming every wrestler in the game with kids from my class. I liked it a lot more than World Tour, but WT was fun too.
And I never actually owned WrestleMania 2000, but I'd rent it all the time. Still play No Mercy sometimes.

So VPW is just World Tour with a larger, more Japanese roster and the Revenge style edit mode? Still not interested. VPW 2 is awesome but there's only a few things in it that I prefer over the WWE games. The super specials, the awesome no sell German suplex reversal, and the cool ring intros. But the specialty matches are lacking and matches tend to end much quicker (though that might just be bc I always play as Vader, Kobashi, or Misawa and they tend to wreck shit). I feel like No Mercy is the overall best game in the series with the only real problem being the slowdown that you sometimes get with 4 wrestlers on the screen.

Shout out to Def Jam Vendetta also, one of my old favourites. I loved that game but I don't understand why it was so stripped down. Considering that it was on newer gen consoles, they should have been able to do so much more. Instead there was no specialty matches, no edit or CAW mode, and a lot of moves were taken out. Seems like they did all that just so we could get cut scenes. Makes it much less legendary than it should have been.

Spent so many hours with friends playing WCW vs. nWo: World Tour. Even with the limited options, the game was addicting, probably because it stood above all other wrestling games that were released up to that point.
Then came along the highly anticipated WCW vs. nWo Revenge, with so many rumors of various hidden wrestlers. Rumors that the Warrior and Flair were hidden in the game with people spending months trying to uncover them, or spreading false rumors.
May AKI Man live forever!

I'm pretty sure I had a 5 Star Match on World Tour with Rey vs. The Black Ninja.

May AKI Man live forever! The most super of all wrestling superheroes! (for a while, at least) I even recreated him on No Mercy as well, complete with alternate gi attire. I've fortunately been blessed with a copy of No Mercy that doesn't have the save-data glitch so I still play it regularly, though Fire Pro Returns is now my main wrestling game when I need a fix. I also rarely fire up Revenge as well for some WCW nostalgia and Brickowski squashing. Someone as dorky as him doesn't deserve Kawada's awesome powerbomb finisher! I've got WrestleMania 2000 and rented it a few times back in the day, but the game's just too hard to be really fun, to be honest. The AI reverses practically everything, especially in Road to WrestleMania mode.
