OK, started up my Royal Rumble event marathon (one a day until the day of the 2012 event) and I have to ask...
Did ANYONE think that the bench press record contest that Dino Bravo participated in was a good idea? I mean, I know this Royal Rumble event was a TV event and not a PPV, but it still seemed like a major waste of time that went on too long, and it's something I usually either zone out on or skip during my viewing.
Am I alone in that?

Truth be told, it got more heat on Ventura than it did Bravo. Jessie was catching all sorts of flak for it from Vince and he would always claim "I was only spotting him.", which was a nice preview of his crooked ref angle at that year's Summer Slam. Bravo was seen as a puffy midcarder and little more.

Very true on Jesse getting heat for it. I did like how over the years, they kept the continuity about Jesse's help there.
I think they even mentioned it offhandedly at WrestleMania VII, months after Jesse was no longer in WWF.

Both 2/3 falls matches take away from putting other guys on the card and the bench press should have led to Dino winning the Rumble. It didn't do anything for Duggan but it's not like it was a major event at the time. A number of guys weren't on the card like Demolition, Beefcake, Hercules, Bam Bam, Bulldogs, Rougeaus, Patera, Martel (strange since Tito was on), Sika, George Steele, Hammer, Honkytonk, Koko although some of them were on a show in Nova Scotia thanks to History of WWE.
I wonder what would be of the Rumble if the rules weren't changed in 1993 to the winner receiving a WM title shot. The 30 man rumble would be cool but lack importance. 1989 they still didn't seem ready with Studd winning and nothing come of it another 2/3 falls match and the posedown. 1990 and 1991 were good but Hogan was champ in 1990 and didn't get anything out of winning 1991. 1992 changed things up a lot but I looking back maybe fans were let down (not then but maybe now) by the changes to the Wrestlemania lineup.

What I don't get is he's suppose to be this big heel because he lifted slightly less than he claimed? He was still one of the strongest guys in the WWF outside of Hulk Hogan and Andre The Giant. But yeah, it dragged on for waaayy too long and was a completely unnecessary segment.

Yeah. Boring and WAY too long. I never cared too much about watching Bravo to begin with, though.

It was a pointless segment, and didnt add to Dino Bravo in any was except to say he was probably the strongest guy in the company at the time, but he was more like a white version of Ted Arcidi
