Anyone else watching the 24 hour gameplay preview on IGN? I've been playing Demon's Souls pretty much non stop for the better part of two years and this is my most anticipated game in years.
Any one gonna pick this up come Tuesday?

Man, Tuesday? I want the game, but I still haven't platted Demon's Souls yet, and don't have a ton of time for games now.

Is it PS3 only again?

It'd better not be, considering I bought it for Xbox.

It's going to be available for the 360 and PS3.

Still trying to decide between 360 and PS3... I'm already part of the Demon's Souls community, so I want to keep to that platform, but I have more friends with a 360 to potentially play with. It may depend on simply what's supposed to run better.
By the way, some of the enemies I've seen in this game... make the worst in Demon's Souls look tame. The world/level and enemy design is absolutely fantastic.

It comes out in one week? It seems like I've been waiting forever. I need to change my pants...
I wonder what platform to get it on. Guess I'll wait for the reviews to see what platform has the advantage.

Early impressions have given the slight edge to the PS3 version. While not perfect, it has less technical issues than the 360 version, though the PS3 version does have a few technical issues too, but nothing game breaking.
I WANT to get this game, but two problems:
1) I've never played Demon's Souls yet.
2) I don't have the money for it. I have money for two games this fall and they are Batman: Arkham City and Uncharted 3 Drake's Deception.
Also, this game is going to be a smash hit sales wise. How do I know? Well it came out in Japan already, and in its first week of being on sale in Japan, it sold just a little bit over 20,000 less copies than Demon's Souls sold in its ENTIRE run in Japan. In Japan, Demon's Souls sold 300,000 copies, Dark Souls in one week has sold 279,500 copies. Yeah.
And note, Japan only got the PS3 version. So yeah, this game will be doing gangbusters. It will easily break 1 million copies sold. I say it'll probably sell in the 2-3 million copies range.

One question that pretty much determines if I'm going to get it or not.
Does it still have the "You lose half your total life when you die" Penalty?
I'm not playing online (just like I didn't for the first game, because I'm just not skilled enough to be playing PvP in any games at all), so I'd never be able to get back to a full life meter.

^From what I've seen, it doesn't affect your life when you come back after dying, there's a new system called Humanity that's I think supposed to combine the Soul/Body concept with the World Tendency concept.
You do know that in Demon's Souls there are Stones Of Ephemeral Eyes that you pick up throughout the game that returns you to Body form, right? Just use one of those and your HP is back to where it was before you died, but, of course, your souls and bloodstain is still in the world where you died.
Seriously, after watching about 6 hours of this 24 hour stream, I think this game has "All Time Classic" written all over it... it looks better than Demon's Souls in just about every way. Combat seems somehow tighter, exploration has improved tenfold, as have the environments in general, game structure is brilliant (like Castlevania crossed with Oblivion), the enemies are absolutely awe inspiring, scale and scope are out of this world, and this is just stuff I can say from just SEEING the game in action.
And, just an aside for how much I enjoyed Demon's Souls... After nearly 200 hours of total gameplay over the course of 2 years, I can firmly say that this was my favorite game for PS3, with MGS4 trailing behind, and possibly my favorite game of the last generation of consoles, with Mass Effect 2 and Super Mario Galaxy 2 the only games that really, REALLY stack up as far as personal enjoyment.
It's so awful that this is coming out, then a month and a half later Skyrim is coming out... I'm predicting a dip in Dark Souls interest around that time. Maybe a lull in online activity. Can't wait for either game... I thought Oblivion was an amazing work of art, while flawed in areas, excelled in terms of scope and the ability to immerse one's self in the game. Skyrim looks to be quite the upgrade, but Dark Souls for me is truly where it's at, as far as hype this fall.

Aaaaand the IGN review gives it a 9. I figured it would be a 9.5, given how much they've been hyping it and how much they seemed to love the game in the 24 hour preview.

Well, one positive is it sounds like they're toning down the uninvited PvP/Trolling aspect of the game. Yeah, it can still be done, just not as prolifically.
Though the whole thing with the Curse status being able to stack to drop you to auto one-hit-kill with the only place to get it removed being 10 gameplay hours away seems a bit much. I don't see anyone but the most ardent fans being willing to spend 10 hours trying to do that, and the most ardent fans are already going to be good enough to never have that happen to them...
...can we get an Evergrace 3, From Software?

^I'm quite glad that the invading will be scaled down. I enjoy a good PVP from time to time, and the spontaneity of defense upon invasion is thrilling, but there have been times (later in SL ranking, mostly) where organized terrorism in Demon's Souls was a serious problem. From time to time, I do still lay down a Blue Stone and join a game, only to find the player standing around, and waiting for a Black Phantom to come in and kill me, then them all celebrating... it's f***ing cruel!

Never played Demon Souls before, but reading the review, Dead Souls sounds interesting. One thing in the review kinda steers me away though:
"Instead, Dark Souls' difficulty pushes you towards its forward-thinking online features. "
Really dont care for games that almost make you have to go online. Its why I hate games that have a ton of online achievements. Still gonna give it a try though

That reviewer, she's a little dramatic. I'm sure it's possible to play it your own way, offline and grinding if that's it.

This game has been pretty far under my radar, and I'd never even heard of Demon Souls until recently. Could anyone be kind enough to explain the concept to me? It sounds interesting.
