Ha.. love the Cubs manager tearing into the crowd saying they don't have jobs if they can attend a day game.

I'm not a baseball fan, but I thought that #34 would be at #1. Maybe it's finally cooling down? Confirm/deny, Chicago fans.

I'm not a baseball fan, but I thought that #34 would be at #1. Maybe it's finally cooling down? Confirm/deny, Chicago fans. Well, as a Cubs fan, but not a Chicagoland resident, I was never that mad at Bartman. I mean, I get it, accidents happen. What people really forget about the incident is, while it hurt, the Cubs could have recovered if we had gone to the bullpen. We still had the bats capable of rallying. But nope. Baker HAD to stay with the pitcher until it was far far too late. So, my anger at the situation has always been at Dusty Baker more than anyone else. But it was also when I learned what Cubs fans pain is really like. God damn, I really thought the Cubs were going to the Series and that was all that mattered. Against either the BoSox or the Yanks, would have been a ratings winner for the ages and, on a personal note, coming a year after losing my grandma, a lifelong Cubs fan, it meant more than I can say. So, yes, there is a LOT of bitterness on my part over it. But not at Bartman. It was an accident and I accept that.

At the time, I got caught in the whole "It's all Bartman's fault" thing. Of course, I was completely and utterly devastated by that whole thing that it clouded my mind set. It clouded almost every Cub fan's mind set. But I would think by now, people have cooled off on it.

The writer admits to being biased and thinks Bartman got a bad rap... which is true. You'd have to actually believe in jinxes like that. The Cubs collapsed hardcore after that happened, it was on them for not getting their act together. There's also the fact it wasn't the deciding game. Just like the Buckner game, almost everyone believes the series ended on those nights, and it didn't. There was another game to go. I remember staying up to the end of the 02 All-Star Game. That pissed me off that they would have done that. It's also kindof scary because it's gotten close a couple of times sense. I think just a couple of years ago the game went into 15 innings and the only NL pitcher left was someone who threw 130+ pitches only 2 days before and the manager refused to send him out (though his own team faced that pitcher in the series immediately after the break). Thankfully the game actually ended with a go-ahead run. I dunno how fans would've reacted if the game was called and (even though it would have been completely unfair) there were still pitchers left (the AL though, really was down to their last pitcher). I also remember the Gamboa attack. Those guys were public enemies #1 and 2 for ages here. I honestly thought there'd be something about the Denkinger call in Game 6 of the 85 World Series. Or did I miss that somewhere.

That ESPN documentary "Catching Hell" was a great watch detailing the whole Bartman affair.
And I got to say, if that ball had sailed 10 feet farther into the crowd what would have been the excuse for them giving up 8 runs later, or blowing the next game?

I never realized how much of an asshole John Rocker is. I remember hearing that he had made some nasty comments about Mets fans and citizens of NYC in general, but I had never actually read the interview. It's not even the stuff about the Mets or NYC that was so bad, it's just that everything he said was screwed up. What a dick.

I still say that ball would've been foul even if Bartman didn't reach out for it.
Really surprised Jeffrey Maier wasn't on there.

46 is #1 for me. DAMN YOU BUCKNER!!! Meh. 1. Buckner had knee issues and should've not been playing, yes... but his glove was really loose and he didn't realize it until after the error. 2. There were plenty of other factors in the loss of the game as well, which were a lot more obvious.

Pedro throwing Zimmer to the ground was one of my top 3 most mark out moments watching baseball The anniversary of that was the other day! I think the initial reaction is to blame Pedro but if Zimmer wanted to play bad-ass and charge at a guy probably half his age, it's his own damn fault and he's lucky Pedro just shoved him down.

I don't see how moving the Pilots was unforgivable. They didn't have the money to sustain the franchise, so it was bought and moved to Milwaukee. It happens.

And Seattle got an expansion franchise after a couple seasons, anyway. If the town was still teamless, then yeah. This list reads more like "The top 50 most sour grapes moments in baseball"

I'd say #7 is probably even worse than the Black Sox fiasco, and I figured that #48 would be a tad higher.
