Considering what Nicholson got for the first Batman movie, he probably would've ended up with a co-creator credit for doing a cameo.

Well, truth be told he contradicted himself. When he made Batman Forever he flat out said he wanted to make Batman sexier, put nipples on the suit, brighten up Gotham, and have Batman be over the death of his parents. Don't get me wrong, I love some Joel Schumacher films. One of my favorites is Phone Booth, but he's on record for wanting to make Batman into a sexy character. If he got over the death of his parents wouldn't be basically quit being Batman then? Concept wise that would be the case. However, Joel said he wanted to present Batman as a sexy, fun loving, and homage to the more entertaining side of him thus making Bruce have fun and be over his parents death.

I remember that the rumors around the time was that Madonna was going to play Harley Quinn (just died a little inside).
After Miller's "The Spirit", Joel at least has company in the worst superhero movie of all time club.

Honestly I think you could do an interesting story where he is over his parents death, but chooses to be Batman for all the good he can do anyway.

Anyone see Joel on Three-6 Mafia's reality show? They have a pitch meeting with him, and Joel pretty much redeems himself in my eyes. Seems like a good guy who was just given the wrong project.

One of the reasons I think the 89 Joker is inferior, is because in Triumphant, Scarecrow is suppose to get Batman with the fear gas and he hallucinates his "worst fear" in the return of The Joker, and I just don't buy it.
I would, however, EASILY buy Heath Ledgers Joker as Batmans worst fear. He killed his childhood best friend and love interest. He ruined Batman's only hope of an elected official who would fight crime with the same intensity he has. He set in motion a series of events that led to Gotham hating Batman. He made Batman doubt his whole philosophy. That Joker was a true nightmare for Batman. Nicholson's wasn't.
Oh, and the casting choices show one of the problems with the 80s-90s series. It was just whoever was big at the time...

Nicholson's Joker DID kill his parents.
That's pretty believable as a worst fear to me.
Edit: Snips beat me to it by a coupla seconds.

Nicholson's Joker also did a lot more killings than Ledger's in TDK.

Nicholson's Joker also did a lot more killings than Ledger's in TDK. It's been a while since I've seen Batman(1989) and all. But are you sure? I have a feeling Ledger's Joker did a lot more killing and was more sadistic than Nicholson's. Ledger's Joker killed Gamble, a guard who was doing a security check of the truck, an officer who was escorting patients from the hospital, a prisoner who he planted a bomb inside, he burned Lau alive on top of a tower of money, he killed Rachel, I am pretty sure he killed the russian mob boss too, and one of his goons who tried to turn on him in the beginning. So I think it's safe to say that Heath's Joker did a lot more damage and killed more people in Nicholson's. Although I must admit that I haven't seen the first Batman in a while, so I could be wrong.

Let's see... Killed at least one of minions and a newscaster or two, the Waynes, and more than likely some others I'm forgetting. Plus the mass-production of whatever they called the Joker Gas (been awhile since I've seen it - wanting to say Smilax) had to kill many, many people. Then there was the climax where more than likely a great many people died.

Also killed Grisham, Jeri Hall ( blanking on her character name), the mobster at the meeting that didn't throw in with him via joy buzzer, the other mobster with the pen to the throat as well as every other mobster that got gunned down then, and a couple of models from the Smilex commercial, as was mentioned anyone that got gassed as a result of the parade, presumably anyone who used Smilex laced products ( though since that wasn't shown doesn't have to count), Bob the Goon, and of course Batman's parents.

Both Jokers are pretty damned scary (personally, I prefer Ledger's, as I never liked Burton's decision of swapping Joe Chill with Joker). So if anything, it might be a testament to Bale's Batman being more effective when it comes to saving lives.

Oh no doubt, I didn't like Joker killing his parents either. It made everything tie up way too neat.
