I know that there are a fair amount of rap fans on the board, so can you guys recommend some "intelligent" rappers to me? What I mean by that are rappers with something to say(i.e. a strong social message or similar), rappers with interesting and/or unusual flow, polysyllabic rhyming, etc.

Sage Francis. Boots Riley with either The Coup or Street Sweepers Social Club with Tom Morello. We should hang out and listen to hiphop sometime. Add to the list: Brother Ali Professor Elemental Jedi Mind Tricks - they have some pretty good ones. Atmosphere -though I haven't heard any of Slug's new stuff. Movitz - if you want to have no idea what they're saying, but the flow sounds really good (they're Swedish .. .or something european).

There's the excellent "Andrew Lansley Rap" by Nxtgen. Strong political message, which I won't elaborate on due to board rules. Nevertheless, it's well made.

Tech 9ne (I think that's how he spells it) comes across as very intelligent in interviews, not sure how his music is though. Tupac was a deep guy as well

I'll second Immortal Technique. One of my boys played some for me and he was great.
Also, Talib Kwali, Mos Def, Public Enemy, the nerdcore subgenre in general, old Kanye West, and The RZA. A lot of old gangsta rap from the 90's also has social commentary on the conditions in the inner cities.

Well, I dunno if he'd really count as a "rapper" but Zach de la Roca from Rage Against The Machine is a pretty damn start guy.

KRS-ONE is still tops in my book. Mos-Def and Talib Q are good on their own, and unstoppable as Black Star. Brand Nubian's good too. Lupe Fiasco has always been a fav of mine, and I can't believe you guys left off NAS.
*Modified to add Mos and TQ.
