Couldn't find a thread about this movie, and I know it's been out a couple of weeks, but has anyone else seen this flick? Good lord, what an amazing movie. One of the best I've seen in years.
Ryan Gosling better get nominated for an Academy Award this year, either for Drive or Ides of March. He's a ridiculously talented actor.
I also love the soundtrack. Fit the movie perfectly, and really did a great job of setting tone.
Also loved Albert Brooks' performance, he really went above and beyond my expectations.
So, just wanted to see what the FAN forums thought of this fantastic movie.

I haven't seen this yet but I REALLY want to. Don't know if I'll get a chance though.

I seen it the first day it came out, and I loved it. The best movie I've seen since Inception.

Never thought I say this but I'm pretty sure I saw more of Christina Hendricks than I ever wanted to in this film.
Still fantastic from beginning to end.

She barely said a word. It's an incredible movie, very stylized and well done, and a compelling story of escalating revenge. I love the director's work now, can't wait to see what else he does, amazing soundtrack that sets this amazing feeling of dread, and Gosling is amazing in it. It's the best 80's movie not made in the 80's, and it's the closest we'll ever get to a GTA movie. I have to figure a showing of this and Bellflower are in the offing if I ever get to program a movie series at a theater. Also, I fully plan on dressing as the Driver for Halloween, as soon as I can find a white satin jacket. Hammer included,

I adore this flick. The Driver reminded me a lot of Travis Bickle in a sense. He was definitely not an action hero like the trailers suggested.
Lots of subtlety and scenes of The Driver just staring at the road. Lots of introversion. Some of the scenes even reminded me of The Hitcher. Great atmosphere in this flick.
Highly recommend. My front-runner for Best Picture

Does Ryan Gosling not act like a douchebag in this movie? Everything else I've seen him in - the guy is just very offputting to me for some reason.

Thank you. Sadly, it won't be available for Halloween. Looks like I'm gonna have to make my own. Also, is anyone else kinda curious about what the Driver's past was? It seems like he's haunted, not in the Travis Bickle sense, but almost like his anger, his temper, was caused by something, something he was trying to run from. Makes it even more fascinating, since none of those questions were ever answered.

I like it that way. Like Clint's "Man With No Name" character from the Dollars Trilogy, there's this aura of the unknown with the character. Also the book did give him a past from the few pages I read.

His voice squeaks a lot and he comes off as a nervous anti-social who doesn't know how to react to the situations around him. He isn't some badass or a douchebag or anything. It's a very good, and unexpected, performance.
The movie was marketed as an action flick with a cool dude wearing driving gloves, but it's not that. There are only a few action scenes and they're downright brutal and go really far in the gore department to the point where they aren't "fun" scenes. The movie treats the violence with a certain heaviness.
I went into this expecting an action movie and it was so much more. I imagine some people even found it boring and would say that "nothing happened". I'm really shocked this was a wide release with a marketing push.

I already have one friend who said that she didn't like the movie precisely for that reason. She was expecting more of a actiony movie, the movie's just being mismarketed, but how else is it supposed to be marketed. It's the problem with mood movies like that, how do you sell it to a wide base?

I thought it was very good, though I had been up all since early morning and was watching the 10pm show, so I was struggling to stay awake during the first half. The second half, however, was quite the roller coaster ride. That elevator scene....woah.
