Part of why I'm disappointed with he Rumble ending is that Jericho kind of looks, as usual, like a giant goober. He has a HUGE return, keeps the crowd waiting for SOMETHING, then he says it'll happen at the Rumble, and...nothing. And it wasn't a "troll" either, he legit tried to accomplish something and failed. And that sucks. Yeah, like when Jericho returned in 2007 to beat Orton but gets punted into oblivion by him 3 years later.

The End of the World was the end of people's typical expectations for Jericho.
-Expect him to talk? He won't. -Expect him to win the Rumble. He didnt. -Expect him to change up his look? Never.

The WWE writers had nothing. "Wait...so we had him not touch anyone for four weeks, hyped up these packages of the End of the World, and made him be a self pandering jackass. Now what for the Rumble?" "I dunno." "Let's just have him come out at #29 and wrestle like he always does." "Does he win?" "Nah, Triple H told us to put Sheamus over. We'll just eliminate him last and act like the past four weeks never happened."

for the first time, I'm starting to doubt my "let's see how this story plays out" mentality.

He'll still face Punk and the storyline will still be awesome and I'll love every part of it through Mania. I'm just bummed I didn't get the one thing from it I really wanted.

Jericho didn't need to win the match to make his appearance substantive, but it was a bit disconcerting to see him rush into the match and just "Jericho it up like" he never left.
All of his return build segments have been extremely interesting, unprecedented ways for a guy to make a comeback, but tonight was so rote and predictable. It's always a good think to have Jericho back and working full time, but I now worry that all of the "End of the World" stuff was just a tease for him to return to the same old suit and tie, serious heel shtick he already did. Very well, mind you, but I guess I just expect something more from a wrestling mind like Jericho.

I didn't think the ending to the Rumble figures in much into what is in store for Jericho. All will be forgiven and forgotten if say on RAW tomorrow, Jericho sneak attacks CM Punk and destroys him for "stealing" his moniker, kick starting a feud and build up that leads to WrestleMania.

The End of the World = The internet melting down as Sheamus wins.

I love the implication that Sheamus saved us from the end of the world.

There, with that joke out of the way... Really it does please me, if only because this means Orton / Bryan isn't happening and really, Jericho doesn't at all need it. Still, I did find it kind of weird that he was basically doing the same stuff in-ring as ever, right to still using the Codebreaker and the Walls. Seems like there would've been some kind of change, but nope.

In all honesty.. It was a fresh winner with great potential and good in ring ability. People are never satisfied! 1) we want a fresh winner 2) Jericho said something.. I want him! 3) Well at least it isn't Orton.. Really guys?? come on.. The guy is good in the ring and fun to watch as a heel or face. Im honestly excited to see how they book him. Im looking forward to it To be fair, that fresh winner most people were looking for wasn't the two-time former WWE champion. Actually, I'm pretty sure Jericho is the only former champion* that much of the board was pulling for. *Again, not counting Ziggler's twenty minute "reign" as champion

How did Jericho "not need it"? The guy that had several cryptic video teases, a big shocking return, some weird segments that got people talking and confusing-yet-implying-something-bigs-going-down announcement that "the end of the world is coming" didn't need to win it?
Meanwhile, the guy that's done nothing but bicycle kick Jinder Mahal for several weeks straight did?
Bit anti-climatic, no?

I mean my first instinct is "wait and see," but I mean...
He was legit trying to win, and he lost. He wasn't trolling. He blew whatever he was planning.

I wanted Jericho to win, followed by Johnny Ace coming out and announcing himself as the #31 entrant (adding to his whole "shocking TV Mr. Excitement" stuff - but in his description of who the surprise entrant is, make it sound as much like Brock Lesnar as possible) and then get in the ring with a livid Jericho, who points at the sign, points to Ace, signals to the crowd, then smiles and jumps out of the ring. Then Ace celebrates while the crowd chants "BULLs***" and throws stuff at the ring until Punk's music hits and he chases Ace out to close the show, staring him down while we fade to black.
Ace can't be fired now, as he's the Royal Rumble winner. So Triple H can't fire him on Raw, but he puts him in a match against Foley for the position of GM.
Punk calls out Jericho, but he doesn't show up, despite his music playing 3 times. Instead, Ace comes out. He taunts Punk by saying he's done something Punk has never done - won the Rumble, saying Punk is just jealous of him now. Punk comes down to beat up Ace, but Jericho shows up and beats him down on the ramp.
In the Foley-Ace match, Ziggler jumps Foley, but Punk interferes later and costs Ace the match. From the ramp, he says he's glad Johnny won the Rumble, because now he HAS to fight Punk, but Punk doesn't want to wait for 'Mania - he'll put the title on the line at Elimination Chamber. Ace accepts.
From there, they build up the Ace-Punk match as a No DQ match for the WWE title, and Lauranitis announces that he's giving Jericho his WM title shot, saying that Punk's EC challenge still stands and doesn't count as him using his shot. Punk, wanting the match, lets that stand.
But it's a good way to keep Lauranitis on but get rid of him as GM, turn Jericho heel, get Johnny more heel heat, build up the Punk-Ace feud, and add more longevity to the Jericho-Punk build. Ace was never gonna fight at 'Mania, but he did it so he could keep his job no matter what.
Some late night armchair booking.
