There are at least 2 main eventers in WWE who think this is a legitimate insult. And Kurt Angle and Johnny Ace embody the true spirit of the ham sandwich.
Lets discuss where this ranks on the insult meter.

Above "Popcorn fart" and below "Y2cheap".

Among wrestlers? Fairly high, since it's calling them a jobber. (Ham and Egger).
Among other people? Confusing.

I take it as a being over-the-top and corny thing. Like calling someone hammy.

When I heard Cena say that, it made me hungry for a ham sandwich. Seriously.

I always thought it was describing someone as plain and boring, like vanilla but, with cold cuts.

I always thought it was describing someone as plain and boring, like vanilla but, with cold cuts. It could work for that. I think it comes from ham and egger, though, since a jobber gets paid less, and therefore instead of prime cuts, he could expect to have to settle with a more humble meal like a ham and egg sandwich, in the carnie days.
