I was at a store and saw ROH DVDs. One had CM Punk and Samoa Joe on the cover, another advertises a match between CM Punk and Terry Funk, and finally a third one with CM Punk and Raven in a dog collar match. Are these matches any good or just a collection of matches of guy learning his craft? Would like to know becuase if they are good would like to purchase them. Thank You.

Not sure about his Funk match. I know his matches with Joe where great. His feud with Raven was his first big feud I believe. Great stuff as Punk even then was great. I think his Raven feud went on in several top at the time indies federation. Even somewhat in earily TNA.

if you have trouble to fall asleep, watch his iron man matches with Samoa Joe, it's very helpful.

Punk/Raven is good. But Punk/Joe is something special. ANy of Punk's stuff in RoH though is watchable at worst. His title match with Aries where he won the belt will always hold a special place in my heart just because how much of a feelgood moment it is with everyone behind him. One of RoH's truly special moments.

Then it's a good thing he never wrestled an Iron Man match with Joe then. ~ You can make a strong argument that the series of matches between Punk and Joe really made a name for both guys at the time. Plus his stuff with Raven was pretty good too. If you like Punk and would like to see how far he's come, it would be a good set to pick up if you've got some spare cash.

Punk vs Raven in a dog collar match should be on his WWE DVD. I'm not sure if they'll air the whole thing though, because there was a whole lot of shenanigans that went on before, during and after.

The Punk vs. Joe match on the retail DVD is neither of the 60 minute draws. It's the third match in the series, which was about 20 minutes long.

Though I doubt will get another M rated one like the rise & fall of ecw.

Overrated. All three of the Punk/Joe matches were snooze fests and most of his ROH stuff is mediocre. The only matches Punk had that were of any importance were against Austin Aries. Punk's ROH run was nothing special.

Loved Punk in RoH. His feud with Raven was amazing, his program with Joe is interesting in that its essentially a single two hour and 20 minutes or so match broken up into three parts, his promo work was fantastic, I loved his little feud with Steamboat & his title win heel turn & 'Summer of Punk' was fantastically entertaining.
Punk in RoH was brilliant.

Anyone have any copies of the RoH Best of CM Punk DVDs to trade? I can't seem to find them and I've never seen them.

The Funk match wasn't that great, any of the four Joe/Punk matches (especially the second hour draw and the final match) are great, top notch matches, his stuff with Raven was for the most part really good too.
I absolutely loved him in ROH... at that time, around 04 and 05, he was my favorite wrestler not named Shawn Michaels, Eddie Guerrero, or Chris Benoit. His feud with Jimmy Rave was great and is often overlooked, too. I want to say he had a couple of good matches with Alex Shelley... Really, the Second City Saints and Gen Next feud was great stuff, too... easily my favorite stuff involving Colt Cabana.

Everything Punk did in ROH was fantastic, namely the Summer of Punk and the trilogy with Joe. But I completely agree that the feud with Jimmy Rave is underrated.

I don't think Ultimo is entirely off. I was never a big fan of ROH though Punk was one of the things that could get me to tune in. It wasn't usually for his matches either, it was usually for his promos.
The guy was pretty sloppy back then and really only started to find his mark as an above average worker in OVW. Even now though Punk, in the ring, isn't a guy I watch for the workrate he lacks. He's a guy to watch for his stuff on the mic and for when the stories bleed into his matches.
Probably his best matches in ROH came from the Summer of Punk there. Perfect blending of everything. It helped he had a cast of amazing characters to play with and to help him in the ring part of the story. Though I do enjoy the third Joe/Punk match for being mercifully a decent length. Only real problem with it is to fully appreciate it, you need to see the two hour long draws that came before it, the first of which is eh and the second of which is okay.
Also while it's not as often discussed, I liked some of the matches in his feud with Rave. I felt that was better work than most of what he did in ROH too, including Joe and the tag matches with Cabana.
