I know the WWE isn't exactly known for being the most forward-thinking company, but the more I think about how incredibly prevalent this trope has been the more it makes me roll my eyes.
You know what I'm talking about, the unwritten rule that "If you are Tag Team Champions, Heel, and without a female valet, you must imply, hint at, or otherwise behave as if you two are More Than Just Tag Partners (tm) backstage".
It's basically just a little extra cheap heat through exploiting homophobia, but just off the top of my head, the teams I can think of...
- Billy and Chuck (duh) - Christian and Chris Jericho (Ass Cream, anyone?) - Rated RKO - LEGACY[/i][/u] - Chris Jericho and the Big Show (who seemed to have a sort of Heavy/Medic thing going on) - Miz and the Big Show (and don't forget when both Jericho and Miz were commiserating about Show as if he was a mutual ex) - DX (Not heel and may or may not have been intentional, but c'mon) - New Nexus (If only for Punk's backstage initiation rituals)
I'm positive there's more than that, if only, again, because it's a cheap and easy way to get heat and a cheap and easy way to let DX get in their pantsing spot (most notable with Rated RKO and Legacy) but that's a whole 'nother topic.
I think the only reason we haven't seen it more recently is because really, when was the last time anybody really gave the tag champions even a proper backstage segment since Jerishow and DX?

Well you left out Too Much, but I don't think it's 'exploiting homophobia' or anything just to have a tag champ treat his partner with admiration. I always love the spot where the one guy begs off after getting hit with a move and hugs the midsection of his partner on the apron. Sure there may be a few fans yelling obscenities over it but for the most part people just laugh, 'cause it's funny.

Trust me, there are some local indy guys who wrestle as Los Conquistadors (not related to the legendary jobbers) and they literally rub each other before and after each match. Kinda disturbing.

Isn't that more a wrestling thing than just a WWE thing, though? That is seen in all promotions as just a common occurrence [and not even just heel teams, in some cases...TNA, for instance, was heavy in the last year or so with hinting EVERY Knockouts team, face or heel, would imply, hint at, or otherwise behave as if More Than Just Tag Partners backstage.] Really, it's just cheap heat 101.

Don't forget that time Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin reunited and instead of just letting the guys go out there and be a great tag team they thought they needed to saddle them with a gay tag team gimmick. Thankfully they changed their mind, but it looked like they were going in that direction one week.

I guess it's quite hard to put a tag team together without some sort of relationship at least hinted at, and that can often be open to interpretation as a bit slashy. Seems a bit too subtle to be intentional!

To be fair, Jerishowmiz was pretty much played for laughs, and Billy & Chuck's act ultimately got them over as faces. Until WWE pissed that way but eh.
