The man's tremendous.
Just to show how good the guy is, my mum, who never takes any interest in wrestling, called him a slimy English git the night he did the "You Can't See Me" gesture at Cena when he was leaving after being fired. That takes talent when even non-wrestling fans hate him.

The material he's given to deliver on the mic is a detriment, because he's very good at that. In-ring, I agree with the general sentiment. He doesn't seem like a guy who does "big man offense", but he doesn't really have much do him aside from them telling us every single match that he used to be a bare-knuckle boxer. So what? He's stock WWE and he's not that great at that, either. I want Wade Barrett to be a main eventer. I like him, but I want him to be awesome. He's not there yet. I definitely also want him to be awesome!

I've never found myself cheering for guys extra hard for being from Detroit or booing someone for being from a rival city, with the exception of Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley, but their work is universally praised.

I think he's great on the Mic and his character makes sense etc. But I personally find it all so boring, especially the in ring element. He seems like a good intelligent guy though so I hope he continues working near the top of the card, I can't bring myself to begrudge him that. This is pretty much my exact thoughts. Wade Barrett is someone who I consider to have good mic skills but very little charisma. Yeah, I don’t consider them the same thing. Jeff Hardy and Rey Mysterio are examples of guys who I think are the opposite. He can talk for days. But he does it in such a dull way that I’m not interested in whatever it is he’s saying. He’s not entertaining or exciting at all. And he’s not good enough in the ring to make up for that. Not yet anyway.

Triple H good on the mic but little charisma, jeff hardy a lot of charisma but bad on the mic! That analogy proberbly only works if you don't like triple h

He doesn't do it for me; him, Swagger and Orton make me want to change the channel every time they come on.
He just seems overpushed to me and his heel schtick and ability are nothing special. It seems like he is in need of a classic over-the-top gimmick to make him stand out; that is what is severely lacking in WWE nowadays.
Back then, people like Barrett and Swagger would have a ridiculous gimmick to hide the fact that they're bland and it worked most of the time. I mean, would you prefer plain old Barry Darsow or the bike stealing Repo Man?
If Barrett had an over-the-top British douche gimmick, similar to Regal, he'd be awesome beyond belief.

I'd also say I have a personal fondness for Wade because he's English and I'm English and he was the top heel in the company when I went to my first WWE event of Raw in Manchester in late 2010. I was there too! I'm from Southampton and feel the same way. I think he's great, but his finisher and music are utter crap (his poop brown tights are pretty bad too). He could be brilliant with the right push and booking, he's a bit of a mess at the moment IMO, everythings not really coming together.

"Rubbish" is a bit harsh, but it's still baffling that Barrett's somehow become a smark darling in spite of being thoroughly mediocre in the ring, and when it's blatantly obvious the only reason he's been pushed farther than Cody or Ziggles is that he has bigger muscles.

Wait, I'm not familiar with British idioms. Does "rubbish" mean "full of charisma" or does it mean like, who ever he works with he gives the rub of awesomeness to?

He's not awesome, but he is a perfectly adequate heel.
He's needs one memorable moment I think to put him over the top.

No but his current theme song is, as a mic worker he is pretty while his in ring work can be pretty average at best

He's good, but I have zero interest in his feud with Randy Orton. Orton bores me to tears, and it seems like they've wrestled 100 times.

I wanted to like Wade but he just hasn't shown me much. Outside of his character as Nexus leader, there's just not much going on.

He's not rubbish. Good look, good talker, pedestrian in the ring. The idea that he's suffering from bad booking is silly though. The man's first feud had him humiliating the WWE's big star for weeks if not months. Barrett was also the one who got to put Orton on the shelf. Not bad for a guy who apparently knows three wrestling moves.

Are you serious bro? Wade Barrett is the singular reason for my renewed interest in pro-wrestling. I went from watching five minutes when I accidentally caught a show every six months to watching every week purely because he is so good. I actually enjoy his mic work more than any other superstar (yes, even more than Punk on a consistent basis), he has a great look, he has a great gimmick, he is fabulous on twitter and is clearly very underrated in the ring.

We're from Scotland, so it's more of a friendly rivalry with the English.

He's serviceable enough in the ring that it doesn't detract from his overall package - which is carried just fine by his excellent mic skills.
His current angle is a bit generic, but not bad by any means.
I think he's quite good, all things considered.

Wade is amazing on the mic but avergage in the ring.
