Wrestlers like Miz/Jericho/Dolph, who can continue to lose, but maintain the ability to be deemed a threat. Wrestlers like Shelton and Mvp were not examples of this. I can't think of many that are around now.

Punk when he was a heel. He would lose, cut one douchy heel promo and the fans would care about hating him again. Rinse and repeat.

Kane.
He could lose every single match, but the instant his music hits people go nuts. This week's Raw was proof. He loses his feud to Cena but nobody cared since he can still chokeslam guys.

Personally, I don't really buy into the 'lose, still retain heat' thing. I mean yeah, you can always get booed even if you lose. The problem with the losing all the time like Punk did in '10/'11 and Ziggler in these last few months is that you don't look like a real top superstar on the same level as Cena, Orton, Undertaker, or Triple H. Punk really didn't become a 'legit threat' in many fans eyes until his big angle and win over Cena at MITB.

I think Ziggler gets most of his heat from Vickie.

Edge when he was heel. I remember Heyman writing an article about it on his blog praising him in about 08, how he could lose the title to Punk or win a match but still manage to make his opponent look better than him and the crowd want to eat him alive.
