Its a another outlet for fans to talk and stick around. WWE wants fans to stay into the product as much as possible.
I'm passive to it. I don't use twitter so I don't care. I realize that's just WWE using a popular media outlet to get fans. Just business and I can understand that.

I always thought that they use twitter as a form of ratings. If their stuff trends then they know people are watching. or something idk

Actually, they did that on NXT for a while for the rookies, and I'm surprised they haven't started doing that. Better yet, add deviantART pictures to the nameplate and disturb everyone! "Why is that duck watching Swagger eat a sandwich, King?" Only if THAT picture of Big Show from the Freaky Wrestling Art thread is used for his entrance.

"Why is that duck watching Swagger eat a sandwich, King?" Sir, no. The weird, brain scarring stuff from the Freaky Wrestling Art would someone end up on there, and why would you blind millions of people with M-Preg Kane?

Come on, the IWC and other fanbases always complain about how (possibly) inaccurate the Neilsen rating system is. WWE uses twitter as a sort of new metric to demonstrate to viewers, potential viewers (tuning in for the first time perhaps) that it has some presence in society. If WWE can trend and even bog down twitter servers, that demonstrates that there is a large amount of people paying attention to it, unless of course WWE made a bunch of fake twitter accounts that astroturf the trending. The use of twitter as a metric of viewers could prove to be innovative for the wwe as other entities adapt this method, making WWE even more potentially relevant in the future of Social Networking.

Social media is a great marketing tool, that's why. It engages people in a personal sphere where they are paying attention. It allows the WWE to promote and develop their products outside of the TV show and without requiring fans to actively seek it out to the same extent as the website. Getting WWE-related topics trending so often is also great at creating a buzz - social proof as it's called - that may draw in casual fans or new fans.

The blog post below is a bit out of date but the general point was that WWE used the car-crash TV trend and the rise of Austin to start a new boom period. It makes sense to try something similar with the social media trend and the rise of CM Punk, it's just a shame that the viral videos stopped at comic-con. The other thing is that WWE are almost unique within the TV industry as events are set in our world, the wrestlers more or less play themselves and events happen in real-time. wweyki.blogspot.com/2011/07/can-wwe-use-internet-to-start-new-boom.htmlI just wish they'd tone it down a bit.

Just THINKING about it makes me start laughing really, really hard. Dammit, somebody dig up that picture and post it!

It really should be,I can say that just by the trends. When your company trends in Twitter(U.S or worldwide),more people will wonder about the product.
