One of the common complaints these days is that since the Attitude Era, because all of the big stars are on weekly TV, the product is diluted because not only do we have three times as many PPVs now, but PPV main events are now matches that could be seen any day of the week, hence us seeing Cena/Orton about 3000 times for example.
But now that those matches can be weekly match main events, what are some matches that belonged on Pay Per View even in the post-Attitude Era when stars are on every week?
I can think of a few examples. Firstly, why the hell did Hulk Hogan job out to Brock Lesnar on an episode of Smackdown? Hogan was still over like rover, could still work and the match was great. Why didn't they book it to be on a PPV and really give a proper impact to it? This wasn't just any wrestling legend, this was the man that was bigger than wrestling, why just toss it away on free TV?
Also, and some may dispute with me on this, but I think that the last Foley/Flair match in TNA belonged on PPV. The last man standing match. It was a really good match, but it was way too short because it was designed to be a single TV segment. I know that Flair and Foley can't really go any more but that match was far better than it should've been and I think by rights, it would've been a perfectly serviceable curtain jerker match at their next PPV. It's not like either man was already wrestling on that PPV anyway.

Mysterio vs Cena belonged as the main event of a pay per view. And not just any ppv, it's a SummerSlam, Survivor Series or Mania match.

I think THE example will forever be Hogan vs. Goldberg, simply for the PPV revenue.

The Undertaker vs The Great Khali in 2006. On PPV Undertaker jobbed to Khali, and they never fought again on PPV. Just watching the DVDs of the shows it seemed like Undertaker never got his win back, until I learned that he got it on Smackdown!
Hogan vs Lesnar in 2002 should have been on PPV. Ric Flair vs Mr. Perfect in 1993 should've been on either Royal Rumble 1993 or (preferably) Wrestlemania IX. Bret Hart and Randy Savage had an amazing match in 1994 in Japan shortly after WMX, and it would've been a hell of a match on PPV. Bret vs Hogan in 1998 on Nitro should've been on PPV.

Shelton Bengiman (spelling, I know) vs HBK from the Gold Rush show on RAW. Good back and forth and great ending, HBK catching Shelton in the air with chin music would have been great at a PPV.

Cena vs. Punk for the #1 Contendership... Granted, it was a contendership match so it really belonged on the main show but that was PPV quality action.

Just watching the DVDs of the shows it seemed like Undertaker never got his win back, until I learned that he got it on Smackdown! I heard tell the reason for that was they wanted a match they could edit the bad spots out of. I think it was originally scheduled for a PPV, but they moved it to TV because "neither man could wait" HBK vs Sid in 1995 should have made a PPV. It got bumped from Summerslam 1995, then became infamous as the first result given away on Nitro. It was HBK's big revenge for the night after WM XI, should've have happened on PPV.

Mysterio vs Cena. First time theyve squared off as babyfaces, and to boot, it was an AWESOME match.

Mysterio vs Cena belonged as the main event of a pay per view. And not just any ppv, it's a SummerSlam, Survivor Series or Mania match. WWE trips me out sometimes. They can have a ready-made, can't fail angle presented to them which can bring in a lot of money...and they act like the neighborhood squealer who just picked up a juicy bit of gossip and has to tell someone before they burst. So they tell everybody and ruin a story ("Punk holds title hostage" could have been the new RNN) that should be lasting until Survivor Series at the earliest. That SHOULD HAVE BEEN the SummerSlam main-event.

Michaels vs Mysterio on the Eddie tribute show. Granted I know why it happened on Raw, but it was an amazing match featuring two legends. Would have been nice on PPV with some build.

I would say Angle vs Benjamin as well from the same show, that was a great match that never got a shot on PPV (also agree with Mysterio vs Cena, Taker vs Jericho, HBK vs Mysterio, HBK vs Benjamin)

I can't hate on that, because that was a match for an audience of 1, their rematch should have been on ppv, not Smackdown. And from that same Smackdown that had Mysterio vs HBK, there was Triple H vs Punk.

That one RAW main event where Cena and HBK wrestled for like an hour....anyone remember that? I've been thinking on this for a while.....and quality-wise I gotta agree but not because of sheer length. If it's the match I'm recalling it WASN'T the Ironman, but just a regular 1 fall match. In the context of a RAW it's awesome, because "Hey! killer Free Match!" if they put it on PPV it's a "I paid $45 for This?!" mismanagement of premium PPV time. It'd be harder to justify it than in a RAW setting.

The build could have simply been "Hey, HBK and Rey are going to have a match on a PPV. It'll go at least 25 minutes or your money back" and I would've bought it. Just a straight-up babyface match. And consider they had a great match when they were in deep shock and mourning over a dear friend's sudden passing. Imagine them having a PPV match with clear hearts and minds...could have been an all-time classic.

R Truth vs Morrison should of atleast been on Summerslam. Just classic wrestling story of superstar getting injured by someone else, then comes back for revenge.

These are the matches that make Raw and Smackdown awesome though, why complain about them and want to pay to see them? I know they may have made great PPV matches but why can't they just make great TV matches? Hogan probably wouldn't of jobbed to Brock if it was on a bigger event. Not trying to sound like a jerk or anything lol, just thought I'd throw it out there that we should appreciate we are given these free great matches every once in a while. I suppose you'd rather see 2 hours of divas matches and backstage skits on Raw?
