Pretty obvious language warning, but:
I think Ice-T should get more credit as an artist... dude was a succesful rapper at the time, then decided to make a hardcore punk/metal band... and they friggen rocked. Lot of controversy came out of it, but gotta give it up for a man who can tear it up in two seperate genres.

Oh hell yes. I remember listening to the born dead album and getting really pumped up. This in the truest sense was gangster metal. The irony that a metal song cop killer was responsible for people paying attention to rap lyrics.

Honestly, I think it's because politicians saw a black guy made a song "cop killer" and just assumed it was gangsta rap, never even listening to the song taking context into account. The song was an anthem against the corrupt cops that plagued the L.A.P.D. at the time. I mean, c'mon... the police chief's idea to control gangs was to have a curfew on blacks.

I was a fan of Body Count ever since I heard the BC track on the Ice T rap album. I bought the ST album when it came out and it was out LONG before the controversy even started.
The first and third album were good. Second....sucked. After that I haven't heard.

I like the prelude to the song better than the song. I love both.

Ice T was the man in the early 90s. This album, O.G. and New Jack City all in a short amount of time.

Love the first album. Never bothered with anything after that though. To me it was a one of a kind type thing. Maybe I'm wrong.
And I always thought Cop Killer was an awesome song. And it still is.

I jammed to Cop Killer in a convertible a few weeks back Nice! At the Jr. High I went to, we were actually forbidden from wearing their shirts or bringing the album to school, so I recorded it onto a blank tape and labeled it "REM - Automatic For The People". ;D Get your lighters out.

The song was an anthem against the corrupt cops that plagued the L.A.P.D. at the time. I mean, c'mon... the police chief's idea to control gangs was to have a curfew on blacks. What was really asinine was how they completely ignored the intro to Cop Killer. Which of course Ice T mentions he wants to kill cops who brutalize innocent people for no good reason. He even says "but tonight we get even!" during the song. Nowhere does he actually say to kill a cop just because they happen to be cops. Of course the LAPD wanted to shift attention away from police brutality.
