Simple but really dumb question, it's just something I've always wondered:
If you install bucket seats in your car and a four point racing harness to keep you in place, and use that in lieu of a seatbelt, is that in violation of the seatbelt law? Technically you are quite safely secured into your seat and are probably much safer than you would be if using the factory stock seatbelts (well, so long as your stuff is installed proper and professional), so yeah...anyone have a clue?
I know it's silly, it's just always bugged me.

It probably varies by state. If you have any law enforcement friends in your state they may be the best people to ask about it. I would imagine that most states would require the factory seatbelts. Obviously older cars have lap seatbelts. I have a 1967 Camaro and it came with a lap seatbelt and its legal to use in my state. I know you didn't ask about lap seatbelts, just thought I'd add that info.

I think it sold though

But, I also live in Canada so I might be different As for the Camaro with a lap belt, last I checked you can drive a vehicle with only a lap belt, or no belt at all as long as that is how the vehicle was manufactured.
