I turn on my laptop earlier today, and my antivirus immediately alerts me of a very malicious Backdoor Trojan. It first gives me a typical Delete option, I go for it, doesn't work, so it gives me a Disinfect option, I go for it, it gives me a bunch of "Bad Image" error messages before restarting. So my antivirus (Kaspersky) is unable to remove it itself. I try Windows Defender, nothing. I try Googling ways to manually remove this specific Trojan, only getting ONE result, but some of the details in the steps are not even present when I try. I even did a goddamn System Restore, and again, nothing.
My laptop is still running fine besides the constant virus alert, but it's really bugging the hell out of me and I just want the damn thing GONE.
So to any of the computer geniuses that might roam these forums, is there an efficient way to delete it, whether manually or through some holy (preferably free) antivirus program? Or is the only way to fully reboot my laptop back to the factory settings, losing everything?
Help!

Other than basic hygiene, why do people make Trojans for the back door?
Sorry to hear.

Backdoor trojan? Don't you mean just a 'Spartan'?
... ... ...
Seriously though, yes: MalwareBytes and Spybot S&D will see you through this difficult time.

I actually tried Spybot S&D, but nothing changed.
I'll give MalwareBytes a try.

They make those specifically for that?

First warning, the nastier trojans and viruses block the update options for most security programs while specifically interfering with the downloading of Malwarebytes and Spybot S&D. If you have one like that, you will need to restart your computer in safe mode w/networking in order to download and run Malwarebytes and Spybot S&D.

When you got MalwareBytes, get the $25 upgrade that can block IP's from even coming in! Trust me on this one, I've been saved from sooooooooo many viruses its not even funny.
That and AVG are really good tag team partners in this respect.

Depending on your OS you can try windows malicious software removal tool.

Well, if you are gonna go in through the back door, make sure to use a Trojan.

A fallback I've used when I can't get rid of the virus is to restore back to an earlier, pre-virus date. I've had good luck with that.

You'll either need to download a different anti-virus program on a different computer and install the program in safe mode. Or boot up in safe mode with networking.

Well I tried everything I could, but no luck, so I was forced to go System Recovery.
And for reasons I don't feel like getting into now, I don't have Kaspersky. But I did download Malwarebytes and AVG for good measures. Hopefully those will be decent replacements.
