People like to jump on Michael Cera for allegedly playing the same awkward nerd in much of his work (I thought his Scott Pilgrim was a clear 180 from that), but it seems like McBride's gotten a free pass for playing the same self-absorbed, snarky douche in most if not all of his roles.
I don't mind him on Eastbound and Down, because he fits the Kenny Powers character to a tee. In everything else, though, it's fairly distracting.

I don't get onto Michael Cera for his "same character" schtick, so yeah. I'm quite fond of Cera, even if he does play relatively the same character in everything. It's likeable to me.
Same applies to Danny McBride. I just think he's hilarious. I largely blame Hot Rod for this.

I likes me some Michael Cera.
Don't care for Danny McBride. I just don't find him funny. *shrug*

I don't like Cera or his doppelganger Jesse Eisenberg, but McBride doesn't annoy me that much.

I don't like Cera or his doppelganger Jesse Eisenberg, but McBride doesn't annoy me that much. Y'know, I never have gotten that argument. I don't think they look or act even remotely similarly. Perhaps it's just me.

Perhaps it's just me. They both generally play somewhat awkward guys, but they're facial/body structures are nothing alike.

Let's keep a list going.
People Who Are Allowed To Play The Same Character Over and Over: Danny McBride Jason Statham
People Who Aren't Allowed To Play The Same Character Over and Over: Michael Cera/Jesse Eisenberg Owen Wilson
For the record, I used to be on the Cera hate train but after Scott Pilgrim, I'm coming back around to him.

The only time I've ever sympathized with one of Michael Cera's character was the exception to the rule, Scott Pilgrim. The rest of his roles, he just comes off as pathetic.

Usually Danny McBride's douchebaggery gets some sort of comeuppance or he gets some sort of redemption by the end.

I don't care for McBride at all, Cera is ok.
Did anyone see the exceptionally brutal interview McBride did with Conan a few years ago?

Because Danny McBride is repeatedly playing a character who is entertaining. Ah, the words of a man who has never seen Your Highness.

Perhaps it's just me. Now I can tell them apart, but it wasn't until I watched Zombieland for the second time that I realized the awkward nerdy guy in it wasn't Michael Cera.
