Ricky Gervais' new show started tonight. Was looking forward to it because I'm a fan of Gervais and Merchant.
I didn't think it was good at all tbh. Liam Neeson had a very good cameo but the rest was just a rehash of previous shows.
Warrick Davies simply played Brent, 'Barry from Eastenders' was back and we had a bumbling accountant to replace Merchant's bumbling agent from Extras.
Anyone else see it?

Yeah, I kind of agree but Neeson's scene was so good it made up for what was lacking in the rest of it.
And Warwick Davis' character is too Brent at the moment but then it is the first one so I'll see how it goes. Besides Neeson the last scene made me laugh out loud: "I saw the dog coming and going as he pleases and thought I'll have a bit of that"

Yeah I had forgotten about that. The dog flap scene was pretty funny.

Little disappointed after watching it to be honest, though it hasn't put me off watching the rest of the series. The Neeson scene just stood out a mile in terms of greatness.

Yeah I'll agree that Warrick was way too similar to David Brent, it would have been fine if it was just the same basic character but he even had spoke like Brent and shared many of the same mannerisms. I also think Gervais and Merchant were too similar to their real-life personas but maybe that's for the best to keep the show grounded.
Still it was OK, Neeson was great, the accountant was good (even if was similar to Merchant in Extras) and it's always good to see the girl that played the new secretary as she has such a unique look.

I didn't like it that much. Warwick Davis is good and all but I just don't buy him as being smug and self-centred. Just seemed too much like Extras in the "let's get a world famous Superstar and make them pretend to be in love with themselves" which seemed to be the formula for a lot of the Stars in Extras. Gervais and Merchant can write brilliant and emotional comedy without needing to have Celebrities mock themselves. In a few weeks I'll be watching The Office finale again. That is the best piece of television comedy writing I've seen in the last 10 years. I want them to go back to writing comedy like that.
