I was watching both RAW and Smackdown last week and it just struck me ... the commentary during matches is just terrible ... even on the PPV's You'll have a match and the majority of the commentary is about something else or things happening later on ... if this happened in any other sport the guys would be removed from there job. Chris Masters vs RVd springs to mind ... there they are with a semi-final of tournament and they start talking about Triple h vs Big Show being a draw or what will Vince do later on ... while Lawler and Coach won't shut the hell up about this .. Joey Styles can barely get a word in edgeways to call the match!! ...I want descriptions of whats going on in the match not a ... The COACH: would you look at that impact king? KING: Yeah Later on Triple H will need to be woried about that. Call the damm match! not something else later on in the show ... I want descriptions/names of moves .. not oooh look at that .. a chimpanzee could do the same job. and for the love of a tasty steak for lunch let Joey Styles speak ... Micheal Cole and Tazz the same .. no actual play by play of the match .. just the history of the combatants and neither of these men have tapped (repeat x 20) Bring back the days of Monsoon, Ventura and Heenan!

Didn't Vince have a hissy fit at Styles becuase he called matches rather then spelling out storylines to people?

He should have known Styles' um... style when hiring him. I'm happy to hear Joey call a match rather than sit there expounding on the "BAH GAWD KANG" heinosity of the heel in question.
Memo to Vince: we're not actually stupid. We can follow the storyline without announce-booth prodding.

It doesn't have as much to do with the current announcing methods as it does with the level of talent provided.
On Smackdown you have Michael Cole and Tazz. Michael Cole is terrible when he has nobody to share chemistry with, but Tazz practically carries him by providing excellent insight of the match psychology and colour commentary. Plus, they both have good chemistry together. Only lately has the product shilling gone a little bit overboard and pretending to be grossed out or afraid of Undertaker and Boogeyman's antics is stupid, but everything else is fine.
On Raw, Joey has done a great job of replacing JR. Joey even seemed to motivate King, as Lawler's chemistry with JR had been getting worse and worse since 2001. Unfortunately, Coach is absolutely awful, as well as a shameless product w***e. I hate Coach.

They just need to ditch Lawler, he hasn't been funny since the mid 90's.

if this happened in any other sport the guys would be removed from there job. It's been happening in NFL games now more often than not (especially ESPN/ABC telecasts). Nevertheless, you're right. Considering you have matches where no feud has been built up, focusing commentary on the match at hand can only help the product and overall sell the match. They have plenty of time to talk about other angles right before and after each commercial break, but they choose to saturate the show with that, unfortunately. Well, there's always the mute button (cause you know Coach and King aren't going anywhere)

I also think Cole is god awful. I'd consider putting Styles on smackdown with Tazz.
As for Raw, ditch the coach, he sucks too. I hate to say it, but bring back JR

I've been saying to bring back JR since they got rid of him. I know alot of people watch wrestling for the well, wrestling, but i prefer the storylines and JR could really elevate a story with his shouting and his cathphrases. Now, im sure Styles can do the same, i've been told he can, but he hasn't since being in the WWE, half of that has to do with the fact that he cant talk over the others and half i think seems to be that he isn't really all that interested. JR used to get me excited to watch any match, Styles doesn't. Im hoping at the next brand trades etc. they swap the commentators around and let LAwler go back to being a heel commentator, he was so much better at it than Coach is.

I would put styles with Tazz and have them call both shows.
(i know it defies the point of the roster split, but im sure they can sort something out)

Unfortunately, Coach is absolutely awful, as well as a shameless product w***e. I hate Coach. This is exactly why Coach needs to stick around. If he wasn't there to do the shameless product whoring, Vince would make Joey do all of it...

I figure they think most people don't care about the names of different moves, or want to bring attention to the fact that most of the top names use a limited arsenal. I mean if it was all about calling the match they'd actually have to worry about the cruiserweights again.

They NEEEEED to have it be only two men. Styles/King or Styles/Coach.
Make it Styles/King for a while, actually, until Styles is good enough at doing what the WWE wants him to do I guess. Then have Coach take King's spot.
Just, please. TWO MAN TEAM!

The commentary is way worse on Heat than it is on Raw. If you think they don't focus on the match much of Raw, on Heat it is worse. We might get one line introducing the match, one line after somebody has won, and the entire match itself is spent discussing what is going to happen on the next episode of Raw. Plus, Coach is on Heat. So unlike Smackdown and Velocity having two separate announce teams, we get a double-shot of Coach (which is roughly two shots more than I needed).

Is there any thing the Coach can do right? I mean why do they have a guy who doesn't know move names and can't deliver a joke doing on commentary?

I like the idea of pairing Styles with Tazz and JR with Kang again.
Coach is just horrible. Just awful.
Cole is annoying as all hell, but not nearly as bad as coach. I hate the way Cole uses the same damn phrases in every situation. When a bad guy wins a match "He stole one!" before a commercial break "So and so is ROLLIN'"

Coach = heel announcer Lawler = former (still sometimes) heel announcer Styles = babyface announcer Now: Coach = a tool that "wants" to be an interesting interviewer but there are new born babies that are more interesting (and more insightful) than he is. Lawler = is supposed to be calling a match and if a woman is mentioned, he plays up his "horndog" role...though I don't think that's just acting with all of that "PUPPIES!" comments. Styles = last of a dying breed. A man that likes to call a friggin match. (Imagine that. A commentator for a sporting event focusing SOLELY on that event and not beating us over the head with upcoming matches, lesbian love fests, or whatever promo is headed our way. Fire that man! ) Checklist: Annoying ass, non commentating, boil on the ass of society? CHECK Oversexed, former wrestler with a penchant for innuendo and corny sex jokes and a need to dress like a fast food franchise figurehead? CHECK A commentator from a very popular one time underground wrestling franchise brought to the "big time", is doing a great job but keeps getting criticized when he fails to call a full nelson a "Masterlock". CHECK There's your RAW commentators. Will any changes come any time soon? This is the WWE. What do you think? BTW - Smackdown? Tazz does 90% of the calls, Cole does the other 10% (badly) while braiding the back of Tazz's hair and giving him the number of his hair solon. Barely watchable.
