Or am I wrong? It's been years since I've seen it. Maybe Merlin and Genie hung out, traveling through time.

If it's the future and he can't see anything going on outside the lamp, that leaves a plot hole of him knowing all the pop culture references he makes throughout the movie. So I would just assume it's just that he's near omniscient

So I would just assume it's just that he's near omniscient It'd only mean that he was put in the lamp after those references became valid. The theory states that the earliest it could have been is 10,300 AD, when it could have been 12,300 AD.

Also, why hasn't there been a show about time traveling policemen yet? That sounds like a cool idea.

These kinds of discrepancies are what happen when you let Robin Williams ad lib so much of his dialogue. ;D

Merlin, after all, existed backwards through time.

Wasn't there a theory that The Jetsons and The Flintstones were set at the same time with the Flintstones being set post nuclear holocaust?

Wasn't there a theory that The Jetsons and The Flintstones were set at the same time with the Flintstones being set post nuclear holocaust? I've heard this theory, the idea that The Flintstones and The Jetsons take place concurrently. After some kind of planetary catastrophe (probably pollution related), a part of the populace escaped into high-tech cities built in the Earth's upper atmosphere, while the one's that remained behind reverted to a Stone Age like existence with echo's of a much more technologically advanced culture. It's like a form of the Eloi and the Morlocks. The dinosaurs and other extinct species floating around on The Flintstones? Jurassic Park-like genetic experiments that escaped captivity and reproduced after the society that created them fell in the catastrophe. The Flintstone society doesn't know about the cities built above them because they don't have the technology to detect them. The Jetson's society doesn't know about the surface civilization because they think the Earth's surface is a wasteland and haven't bothered looking. As for Aladdin though, no, I can't see it. I personally prefer the idea that Genie is either a time traveler or just exists outside of linear time in some fashion.

Not no-selling the premise of the argument, but I LOVE that Kent Brockman picture and I want it.

Actually, the third century would run from 200-299 A.D. The year 300 would have kicked off the fourth century.
I always went with the assumption that the genie existed outside of linear time as well.
