Chores. Lots and lots of chores. When I wasn't playing outside with friends, I was doing chores for some money.

I have a few honest answers. First, I was a little spoiled in the fact that I usually got what I asked for, within reason. Second, I did occasionally earn money for doing unusual chores for my parents or grandparents. Lastly, I got really good grades without even trying, so people wanted to copy off of me all the time. I started charging people for the right to copy off of me or copy off of someone who copied off of me.

No one wants to admit they stole from mom, dad, grandma, etc. ? Sure its bad in retrospect but as a kid you do what you gotta do. Doesnt mean you're bad or evil. Sneaky yeah of course but in a twisted way there's sorta an art to it in that devising ways and methods to try to minimize getting caught. I stole twice. I got my ass worn out the second time. Never again.

I got an allowance, some minimal amount like $5 a week and was responsible for taking out the trash and keeping my room clean (the latter being a tremendous challenge, even to this day), but had the opportunity to earn more with additional chores.
And every now and then my adopted dad (basically my step-dad at first who legally adopted me when my mom got married) would either give me money or I would steal some change out of his pocket. He didn't care enough to punish me for it, though the one time I stole a $20 I got into big trouble.

Never again. I never stole money from my parents. The thought never even crossed my mind. Though I did steal cigarettes from my dad all the time. My cousin on the other hand would steal hundreds from his step-dad. Dude was a wife beating prick and hoarded whatever money he didn't spend on drugs, so I always felt like it was justified. It's kind of telling that my cuz once stole 300 dollars out of the guys wallet and he never even noticed. He was a rich man in a house full of poor people apparently.
