The black guy who's power is he can adapt to anything so he can't die. Seriously, that annoyed me so much, out of all the characters to kill off, they pick one you can't kill. But thinking about, who else was there at the time? You can't kill Mystque or Beast without messing up the timeline even more that it was already. And they can't kill Havok off without some scenes with him and his brother. So it's either him or the poor man's Wasp. You don't pick Darwin to be in the movie, if you want someone who you can do shape changing effects make it Mimic or something, pick any of the hundreds of minor X-Men characters. And thanks Tank, that's exactly what I meant.

Great movie, especially because I was so firmly in the 'continuity' camp before seeing it.
After seeing it, didn't care one whit about the continuity, outside of maybe X2 this was easily the best X-men flick.
Plus Fassbender ruled as Magneto. Leaps and bounds better than Mckellen, who while a fantastic actor, never fit as Mags.

Wait, Darwin? His powers just let him adapt to the situtation not let him go "I'm dying now so my powers will now stop me from dying". That's exactly what they say. That's how his powers work. He gets thrown underwater, he grows gills. He gets thrown into space, he adapts to the vacuum. There's a World War Hulk tie-in where his body determines that the best way to survive fighting The Hulk is to not fight The Hulk at all, AND HE F***ING TELEPORTS AWAY FROM THE BATTLE. Havok's random blast shouldn't have been able to kill him. He should've...I don't know, deflected or absorbed that s***. Because at the end of it, his power pretty much specifically is "He CAN'T die." It's not that he just goes "I'm dying so now my powers will stop me from dying." His powers should stop him from ever getting to "dying" in the first place. But then, doesn't really matter. That's just one more thing among the many that this movie screwed up. See, I viewed it as Shaw absorbed Havok's energy and converted it into his own power and they force fed it to Darwin. Darwin's body simply didn't know how to adapt the massive amount of energy (hence why he shifts several times before he dies). I'll admit that I didn't like that he died but I understood why he died.

I loved First Class. It's my favorite X-Men movie, and my 3rd favorite movie of the year(behind Deathly Hallows and Hugo). All the continuity stuff never really bothered me like it does some people, especially since I took First Class to be a totally seperate film from the first time I saw it.

First off, it is a Hollywood movie, the black guy always dies (see Will.I.Am)
Second I fully agree Magneto was the best part of the movie. Xavier was played well, but how can you really side with Xavier in this story? What really makes him likable?
And for continuity errors, isn't Havok younger than Cyclops?

As for Beast appearing on a TV in X2 without his fur...image inducer. Why not?

Xavier's role in the story was to counter-balance Magneto and show how he went from a smart but womanizing college kid to the wise and powerful Professor X that we all know.

Xavier just came across as one of those high class people who want to change the world but has no clue what they are talking about (think middle class house wife asking people for donations for a third world country). I get the whole we need to be above the ignorance thing but he comes off as so oblivious
Also, why does everybody hate Origins? Is it a diehard comic fan thing or am I missing something?

I know the problem that I had with it is that aside from the awesome opening credits and Liev Schriber being awesome as Sabertooth, there's really nothing all that interesting about Origins. I just remember being bored by it for the most part. There's also the fact that some of the more popular comics characters are handled pretty badly(Deadpool having no mouth, Gambit in general).

Maybe not in the movie itself (not sure exactly) but in every piece of promotion for Origins she was called Emma Frost. for instance... Yeah, I tried to make this argument too but all the ads said she was Emma. Also, if you get the Blu-Ray of First Class, the Cerebro special feature, which is a listing of most of the mutants to have appeared in the X-Men films, tries to tie them all together. It doesn't work. As for the movie itself, I loved it and I kinda treated it as a reboot anyways so the continuity errors didn't get to me all that much. That commercial says "My name is Emma Frost"

If they end up making First Class a new/alternate canon, can we get the Dark Phoenix Saga for reals this time?

That commercial says "My name is Emma Frost" Surely the key word there is 'commercial.' Unless she was named in the movie, who cares what a commercial says? The bigger issue was the Mystique/Xavier relationship being this huge thing, and then in the original films, he hardly knows anything about her

Continuity mess aside, I LOVED it as a standalone film. The Wolverine cameo was awesome. It's my favorite X-Men film.

I took it as either a brand new or alternate continuity from the comics and other films. And I really enjoyed it. X-Men: First Fassbender.
"I'm going to count to three....and then I'm going to move the coin" is one of the most bad-ass lines ever, in my book.

I'm in the minority, but I really disliked the original 3 movies (the 1st one has aged very badly since) and I really liked First Class and the Wolverine movie. Plus being just a casual fan of the X-Men, I didn't really mind all the storyline problems.
I'm also a huge Kevin Bacon mark.
