I can't think of anything at my own store that you could/would use like that except a broom handle. So, I can't help on that front.
They're both getting what they deserved, as far as charges go. The victim was in the wrong for jumping over the counter and attempting assault, and the assailant is in the wrong for the amount of force used to subdue the victim.
Off topic; $lim, wasn't the dance in your sig in the Xbox 1 vs 100? It looks really familiar.

He was totally justified. Two women attacked him, he had no idea if they were armed, he defended himself. And while he should not have hit them when they were down, adrenaline makes it hard to control yourself sometimes. I want to find out this guys information and contribute to a legal defense fund for him. I don't know whats worse, him beating the sh!t out of someone or you for condoning his dispicable act. That woman attacked him physically, and when he retreated they leaped over the counter to further attack him. Two on one and he had no way of knowing if they were armed. He defended himself, pure and simple. Maybe he went too far, but adrenaline in a dangerous situation can make someone go to far. Those women were at fault, he didnt pull out a weapon first, he was attacked first. He didnt pull out a weapon after being slapped, he pulled out a weapon after one of them assaulted him and then both followed him to continue the attack. What should he have done, curled up into a ball and let them beat on him? Hell no. I applaud him for defending himself and would do the same in that situation. I hope I would not go to far like he did, but if I did I would not be upset about it. Those women brought it upon themselves.

Dispicable? We always go for the top shelf with our words don't we?
Dispicable is killing someone and bragging about it. He hit someone that attacked him first maybe 2 or 3 too many times.
He was defending himself and got overzealous. I'm not saying he's right, because I think he could have handled it without the weapon, but don't blast anyone for not feeling how you do. They got pissed cause he marked a bill? They probably had something coming if that act like that all the time. Maybe not a beating like that, but some people need to be taught that they can't do whatever they want.

I'm surprised McDonald's even takes bills larger then a $20... I remember for years every fast food place had signs up saying they don't. But yeah.. wanna not get f***ed up with a pipe? Don't jump the counter with your friend because someone is doing their job properly and checking the bill you handed them. Despicable would be if she started giving him lip and he grabbed the pipe and smashed her in the face with it without provocation. Defending yourself in a 2 on 1 attack is hardly despicable. What's he supposed to do? Let two people wail on him because they are women?

You can't see over the counter so who knows what was excessive as she might have still been coming.

Self defense ends when a person is incapacitated. True, we can't see over the counter, but had she been any threat beyond that point (and she'd have to have a gun or other sort of weapon at that point), he probably wouldn't have been charged.
That said, is it despicable? I used to work as a crime reporter, my threshhold for what makes an action despicable is pretty high because of it. I've seen despicable acts, and while he was in the wrong, I don't think I'd call it that. After she jumped over the counter and ran at him, she took the risk that he was going to respond with force. Her gender doesn't cancel that out. It was the hits beyond it that put him in the wrong and the story doesn't say she suffered life-altering injuries from it, so it's hard for me to call it a despicable act.

I chatted about this with a manager at work today, and they said it could have been the bar used to change the lettering on the sign.

This was out of line but I couldn't stop laughing because of that woman yelling "STOOP ITT!!! STTOOOP ITTTTT!" As soon as I saw that, first thing that popped into my mind was this: (language) Just some background on the location, it happened at a West 4th street mcdonalds in the Village in manhattan. My take on it is that while it seemed like he was excessive, we didn't see if the person on the floor was trying to get up to continue the fight. I know one woman had a skull fracture and an arm injury, but the other had a deep cut or something like that, but she might have still been fighting. Unfortunate that it had to happen that way, but in a city as crazy as NYC is, you really can't take any chances with crazy people like that. Sometimes you gotta make the decision that it's them or you.

She earned the counter attack and I'm glad he did it. I just wish he'd have stopped sooner. I hope he gets sentenced to some solid anger management on top of however many months he gets. Wish she'd get charged as well

On news sites they've been editing the video and only showing his attack.
Yep, the poor verbally abusive and terrible women getting beaten up by the ex-con working at McDonalds trying to get his life on track. That jerk.

I thought it was a broom or mop handle... I actually thought it was the fryolator basket that they cook the french fries in. Certainly sounded like one when he first started swinging.

Don't use violence on someone if you don't want to deal with the consequences. That's all.
