I don't even think he was the best of the 1970s. I think Terry Funk, Nick Bockwinkel, and Harley Race were better overall performers from that time period.

^^^ Bruno was WWWF champ in the 60's. True, but that doesn't make make my statement untrue. He held the title for much of the 1970s. I can't speak for who was the greatest of all time, because I am not familiar with much wrestling before the 1970s. I can't really say who the best wrestlers were in the 1960s. However, I have seen enough wrestling from the 1970s to form an opinion on who were the best performers and champions during that period.

Bret Hart would be my pick. His no-frills, no-nonsense style holds up better to me than Hogan or Flair. Shawn is a very, very close second. Savage would be my third, Austin fourth, Pillman fifth.

Gonna go with Bret Hart. From a drawing point he main evented the largest PPV ever and he was not even the world champ. Great storylines with Shawn/ His brother and Austin etc He was the champ during the whole steroid scandal/trial etc he was then the first guy to do the whole USA v Canada/rest of the world angle Montreal for better or worse is still the most famous wrestling match of all time so much so it turned the owner into a bad guy on his own show. Vince calls him the best inring storyteller of all time thats good enough for me in jmo

I would argue that Montreal tainted Bret's legacy and Shawn's to a lesser degree. Vince came out of it looking incredible in retrospect.
But otherwise I don't disagree with anything you said.

Going by that logic, Davey Boy was better. No bugger in Wembley came to see Bret wrestle, they all came to see Bulldog win. Pretty much anyone else could have been put in the same position as Bret with the same result.

I'm going with Flair. I've never came close to agreeing with the "he had the same match every night" business.

There is no correct answer, but I have to say Ric Flair. In his prime he made EVERYONE look like a million dollars in the ring. Great promo, great character, great wrestler.

It is The Great Power Uti of course! The Great Power Uti beat every single wrestler ever in history of wrestling, even George Hackysack and Frank Gooch. Many he has also flung off 8000 foot cliff. The Great Power Uti has also beaten big animals such as elephant, rhinoceros, tiger, crocodile and cheetah. The Great Power Uti also go to Jurrassic Park and pin all dinosaurs there.

For me, the answer is HBK. I respect the opinions of people who disagree, but honestly, I've never seen a bad Shawn Michaels match. He could brawl. He could fly. He could do it all and entertain the crowd like no one else.
*The OP asked for best WRESTLER and not best DRAW. Totally seperate things. **Someone better mention Kurt Angle or he'll go on a crazed twitter rant attacking the whole board....

I'd have to say Kurt Angle- great wrestler, can work any style, great on the mic, can have a good match with ANYONE, can be heel or face, can do comedy and serious stuff and can draw money. The only reason he's not featured more on this list so far is he's still an active wrestler...
Also he's in a 2nd rate promotion...
Also he acts like a crazy person....

I still think it's important to mention that many are going to have regional and generational biases. We can't judge what we don't know. That's why I usually don't use the phrase "of all time" when deciding best of lists for pro wrestling.

Why does who drew the most have to be the only qualification for who the best is? That's like sayin Sly Stallone is a better actor than Anthony Hopkins simply because he drew more money. Because a wrestler's #1 job is to sell tickets.

Hulk Hogan, for the simple fact that he's part of pop culture Americana now. Others have been more influential before him, better in the ring, any criteria you wanna use, but Hogan is synonymous with pro wrestling to virtually everyone.

Lou Thez, He was the man for his time,Drew tons of money and was great wrestler And he was an awesome heel at times, too. I think it gets forgotten sometimes that he did a ton to establish the heel/face dichotomy.

Depends on how you classify "Great" in this case. In terms of being a draw:
- Hogan - Austin - Flair/Inoki
In terms of entertainment value (in-ring, promos, etc): it starts with Flair and HBK and everyone else is a good distance behind them.

My pick is also Kurt, but I don't think the reason is due to him still being active, it's probably due to Kurt's confusing mental faculties and actions nowadays. I'm a pretty big Angle defender but aye 1) Kurt 2) Bret
