I have to be honest, I felt kinda sick when they {Spoiler}killed the baby but it's cool that they're not afraid to "go there" when they need to. anybody else think that Cersei made a dumb f*** move pissing off Littlefinger like that?

OK, can anyone tell me what was going on with the woman and her followers on the beach? What was going on there? No idea.

OK, can anyone tell me what was going on with the woman and her followers on the beach? What was going on there? No idea. A new god appears. That was Mellisandre, she is a follower of R'Holar (sp?) who is a fire cleansing based god. So to recap, Gods worshipped so far: The Seven- The widely accepted religion of Westeros. She was burning the statues of them. The Old Gods- Gods of the North, often involve sacred trees Red God- Fire, and sacrifices to fire. This god also gives surprisingly accurate prophecy, and magic(note the glowing gem at her throat when the Maester tried to poison her). There will be more. Also, she is attached to Stannis, the dead King's Brother, and since he found out about the bastarding from Ned Stark (GREAT f***ING CHANGE FROM BOOK!) he has staked his own claim. He is competing also against his brother Renly, aka the guy who had the gay scene with the Knight of the Flowers in season 1. Renly has allied with the Knight of the Flowers family, and has gained a s***load of troops. Robb Stark sent his mom to treat with them in this episode.

This rocks my world.
Only new addition/change I didn't like was Dany having awkward flirty time with her bloodrider

The show felt fairly rushed, though thats understandable as they have to set everyone up in the right place for their arcs this season. I also would've liked the book's prologue to be the show's actual prologue to set the tone for Stannis, Davos, Melisandre, etc more.
I thought the best parts actually were the scenes added for the series. I loved the Robb-Jaime confrontation and the reveal of Grey Wind and I loved the Cersei-Joffrey scene specifally for Cersei's unspoken realisation that she'd lost control of him.
Good first episode and I have the lovely feeling that next weeks will be even better.

Really good episode. I agree that the non-book scenes were the best part. My only complaint is, that I wish all the Stannis stuff had started the episode.

I watched it twice last night and both times I'm like ok, what the hell is going on right now?"

I gotta say, the only thing I didn't like was Joff telling Cersei off like that... The two are a despicable tandem

Let's give a hand for Cersei's crowning moment of awesome with her deadly hokey pokey.
Also Joffrey makes the most wonderful sound when slapped.

Also Joffrey makes the most wonderful sound when slapped. It really is quite satisfying. Also, she is attached to Stannis, the dead King's Brother, and since he found out about the bastarding from Ned Stark (GREAT f***ING CHANGE FROM BOOK!) he has staked his own claim. Is this sarcasm? Bear in mind I've only read the first book so I don't know {Spoiler}if the letter being intercepted has a wider reaching impact.

They're filled with lots of that. But this change is good for two reasons: 1. Stannis actually has proof of this instead of just his random assumptions. 2. The story remains the same.

In fact reading the book when they mentioned the letter I wondered how the hell Stannis was going to find out. So he just has a hunch then, kay. Really liked the premiere. Stannis seems like a really interesting character so looking forward to seeing where this goes. Also, cool to see Dinklage move from the 'And....' credit to first billing. Guess it makes sense after his award wins and Sean Bean no longer being around.

I think in the books it's alluded that John Arryn had talked with Stannis (they mention that Stannis had left King's Landing in a huff shortly before Eddard arrived) and he figures that both John Arryn and Ned Stark being dead confirms his suspicions. I love how they're going right over the top with Stannis' stodginess and obsession with being honest. that whole "he's not my 'beloved' brother, I never loved him" scene was hilarious.

Yeah it was a good first episode. They really covered a lot in that one hour from the first section of the book, so it felt a bit rushed but it allows for other episodes to focus fully on the more important events of the book so thats cool.
That said, I wouldn't want to be a viewer that hasn't read the book yet. I think I'd be completely lost already.

Only thing I'm confused about is how Melisandre was able to drink the poison, but I'm guessing that's supposed to add to the mystery and danger of the character.

whoa, Robb's wolf got big as f***.
I know it can't really be helped, seeing as they are mother and son, but it would be terrific if Cersei and Joff could not ever have any scenes together again. It's really distracting spending the entire time hoping an asteroid strikes them both down.
