I remember reading some stat from a while ago that said there hadn't been a PPV without Triple H, Orton or Cena involved in the title match from like 2008 or something. (anyone remember what I'm talking about?) Mind is a little bit blown. Up until Punk's latest reign started, the only WWE Championship matches on PPV from Wrestlemania 21 (in 2005, the start of the "modern" era) onward that didn't involve either Cena, Orton, or Triple H were Vengeance 2006 and the Royal Rumble 2009. And of those two PPVs, one of those was headlined by a Degeneration-X match, the other by a Royal Rumble where the last two participants were Randy Orton and Triple H. Fortunately, Punk seems to have broken that streak now. Hey that's a gross exaggeration... There was also Miz/Lawler at Elimination Chamber 2011.
