Those are the worst things I can think of that have happend in Vince's professional life. Not sure what I would pick, probably between Benoit and Owen.

The steroid trial brought the worst immediate threat to Vince personally, so I'll say that. It also led to him pushing vanilla midgets, which he must have hated.

Definitely the steroid trial. The Benoit murder-suicide was a pretty big deal at the time, but that was mostly a big deal concerning Benoit, his life, and his family. The steroid trial in the '90's was an indictment against wrestling as a whole and, if I'm not mistaken, is the one thing that pretty much blew the lid off of kayfabe.

Okay, Funaki photos? Is that the gag option or did that really happen?

Benoit happened when WWE was pretty secure.
Owen, however, happened at the peak of the WWF's popularity, when all eyes were on the company. That was a big deal.'
But the steroid trial was the worst - it came at a time when it could have actually killed the company, and potentially wrestling as a whole.

I voted for the Benoit murder/suicide, but that's only because "his own ego" wasn't an option.

Recently I have watched several videos during/right before the steriod trial and wow, alot of bad stuff for the WWE was going on. The Pat Patterson/Terry Garvin sex scandal and every one under the sun accusing WWE officials of sexual harrassment. It really put a pretty good black eye on the WWE. Since most people didn't understand the backstage workings of the WWE, it really gave people a bad picture of the backstage going ons in wrestling. Anyone with half a brain knew there were steriods in wrestling, it was the other accusations that looked much worse.
As far as Hogan leaving and signing with WCW, Vince kind of needed this to happen to get the heat off himself. Not to mention with the schedule Hogan was working, he couldn't be "the guy" like he still wanted. This forced Vince to change his business plan and he had to go with guys like Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels. It definitely didn't help business, but the fact that Vince survived this and then in a few years the WWE became the top company again is nothing short of amazing.
By time Benoit happened it was horrible, but it didn't reflect quite as badly on the business, since it was the actions of one man and on his day off. Really the only thing it lead to, and not a bad thing, was the concussion concern. This has also become a major issue in every major U.S. sport. But I think it might have been the straw that broke Vince's back, so that is why I voted for it.

Wasn't 1995/96 the closest they ever came to actually shutting down? If so, I cast my vote with WCW.

The whole steroid trial and it did almost kill off the WWE & blew the lid off of wrestling as a whole

The trial almost killed wrestling as a whole. Even WCW felt the effects of it. So that.

Steroid trial almost landed Vince in the pokey so that wins by default.

The steroid trial. It was as terrible a tragedy as 9/11 after all.

Has to be the steroid trial. An event as traumatic to the McMahon family as 9/11 was to America.

Basically no one could figure out why Funaki kept surviving all of the roster cuts for years despite doing nothing, so we decided that he had incriminating photos of Vince and was using them for blackmail purposes.
