Well, one dream past v present feud has come to a close in Rock/Cena.
I enjoyed it overall and am delighted the match happened. It was a pretty good match and was certainly epic in feel, once the bell rang. Some fans were disappointed with the build and/or the match but I think in years to come people will look back fondly that another huge moment (ala Hogan/Rock at WMX8) actually happened.
Now speculation is rife that ol' Stone Cold will take on CM Punk at next years Wrestlemania. Stone Cold has been out of the ring for over 9 years but looked great on Tough Enough, suplexing and bumping. He also continually says he feels great, neck and all.
Now, the simple question is, in your opinions, would the BUILD and/or MATCH live up to our expectations? Assuming Austin came back for 3/4 months to build it up through promos and both he and Punk were allowed to go full throttle (I'm sure they would, Rock and Cena pretty much bypassed the PG rating in the last year).

The build would likely be amazing.
...The match itself, with the condition Austin's neck is in these days and Punk's less than stellar in-ring ability?
Eeeeeeh.

I'm actually more worried about Punk than I am Austin. Punk's offense might be kind of awkward for Austin to sell for, especially his first match in a decade. I think it could be goodl but the best Austin matches are when his a paired with a brawler, or a guy who can brawl well when he has to (Bret Hart).

They'd both certainly get an assload of leeway in their promos, and the storyline would more than likely be just them wanting to have the match, as opposed to the he said/he said that Rock/Cena had. So no.

For me personally, I'd love it. Two of my all time favorites going at it, it would be my Rock/Hogan from X8. I think the match would be a lot better than people think because Austin can still go and is in far better shape now than he was when he left and Punk, while not someone that can carry a match, can still put on great matches, plus they'd be given all they need to make it work.

I think it'd be fine as a match, give Austin the lee-way to call the match and let Punk take all high spot bumps. Austin can play the brawler and take Punk's key spots easily (high kick/GTS/knee & bulldog/leg lariat etc) and none of them will be too big a risk to his neck.
Plus as Austin showed in his feud with Angle, in matches against the Rock and during the Two Man Power Trip, he can still show a very nice technical side. Punk would just need to sell for the most part against the much bigger man.

I have no desire to see this match/feud. Agreed. Their little segment a year ago was enough for me. I don't even think they should play up the straight edge thing as much as they do it now.

Rock Vs Cena was easy to get off the ground , but then it devolved into a repeat fest of promos untill the match , Austin Vs Punk IMO is more difficult which is why IMO I think it would fall short because they have even less to go on when it comes to a feud.
Now the match I think would live up to the hype if just on Austins shoulders alone , Austin would without a doubt go 120% into this match and for one night we would probably have 97/98 austin...okay maybe not that prime but I am sure he try to look like it.

I think it'd be awesome. They're both extremely entertaining on the mic, and the match would be fun because I don't know who would win (especially after Rock/Cena).

The promo work, by both men, should be fantastic. I'm not too sure about how the actual match will be.

I understand people not liking Punk, but thinking he sucks in the ring is becoming increasingly common on here. I am baffled. I never said he sucked. I said less than stellar. Stellar does not mean average. Punk's in-ring skills, while admittedly have gotten better since joining WWE, have never been his strong suit. He has a habit of being sloppy and it's his charisma and personality that tend to carry him, even in the ring. He's not an exceptional technical wrestler. He's a solid brawler, albeit rarely shows it in WWE. He's an okay flyer. This, compounded with Austin's condition, spells out to me a match that could be bowling shoe ugly.

I think it could easily end up like Rock/Cena in that they have great promos, but end up repeating the same points over and over. I mean, you can only have Punk accuse Austin of being a bad role model because of his alcoholism while touting his straight edge-ness so many times before it gets stale.
Would there be more stuff to this feud that I'm not seeing right now?

His best matches with him were because he wrestled him pre neck injury, when Stone Cold was one of the best technical wrestlers in the world. As for the match, it would be fine because the two respect each other so much and would work really hard to ensure the best possible match. Hell, Nash/HHH was passable and Nash is a f***ing trainwreck.

Only if Creative sticks their nose into things. They could book anything as a disappointment.
Leave those two to their own devices booking wise, however, and I'd say it would be very hard for it not to at least live up to expectations.

The Prospect of this match leaves me with no enthusiasm at all.
I dont see how this is a dream match, the pairing just seems too random "Oh Austin drinks beer and Punk doesnt so they should wrestle".

I remember that new leaf turned classic he had with hulk hogan that featured all the selflessness i've come to associate with shawn michaels. I disagree with that notion though. Most of the great wrestlers have been pretty awful people. Bret was a womanizer. Austin is a woman beater. Hogan is an egomaniac. Dynamite Kid is a drug abusing woman beating bully.
