I just watched this weeks smackdown and I have to say...The Pipers pit segment kind of sucked. While I love Heel Bryan (always have been a fan of super serious submission artist.) I just don't buy this whole AJ Drama. Of course thats not what real bothered me...What really annoyed me is how for the first time in the decade plus I've watched him...Piper seemed really really outdated and out of touch.
The whole "You don't tell a LADY to shut up , That's a no!" and "You don't yell at a lady! That's a no." thing seemed like it was straight out of the fifties. I could see it being in one of those shorts Rifftrax and MST3 make fun of from the 40s and 50s.
He should've finished up by telling Bryan that wearing T-Shirts was unprofessional and to cut his hair because he looked like a hippy.
I actually enjoyed the rest of the show though. The RyBack Sqaush was cool and Foley/Hart were as entertaining as ever.

I just can't get behind a face Piper, unless he's against a heel Hogan. I rolled my eyes at all the "YOU DONT DO X TO A LADY!", when I've seen him punt Cyndi Lauper halfway across the ring.

Isn't this what we all wanted? The return of 1989's terrible babyface Roddy Piper?

Well, for how WWE treat their women most of the time, I found that segment to be pretty progressive.
...In the same land where the WM video package for the division paints its women as socialites incapable of doing anything more than posing, at least.

Considering that CM punk brought a huge amount of publicity by arguing with Chris brown about woman beating, I think WWE would prefer to have their babyfaces actually promote not being dicks to women.
Besides, it makes sense, Piper was talking about how he's a father now and has daughters. A douchey boyfriend to a girl who looks like a teenager is bound to piss him off.

I like it, but I agree, something about it just didn't click. The promo was good, but, considering it was Piper, maybe I was expecting him to hit Bryan at some point, let the temper loose, not just lecture him. Verbally and Physically put him in his place.

I enjoyed the 'Pit segment, aside from the mostly dead crowd. The whole "You don't tell a LADY to shut up , That's a no!" and "You don't yell at a lady! That's a no." thing seemed like it was straight out of the fifties. I could see it being in one of those shorts Rifftrax and MST3 make fun of from the 40s and 50s. I think that while maybe he went a tad overboard, for the most part it's timeless advice that people like Chris Brown should listen to. I'm pretty sure in the 40's and 50's, yelling at women and treating them as second-class citizens who should be subservient to men was the standard. So a 50's Piper would've been more like "Shame on you AJ for causing a distraction!", "A woman's place is at home cleaning house and raising a family!", "A good girl knows to obey your boyfriend!", and "Wow, you're dressed really slutty. Put on a dress for goodness sake!".

I used to like him when I was younger but I've been sick of seeing piper on wwe tv for close to about 6 years now. Just go away and stay away.

I think Piper was too sober, he's at his best when it appears that he's had a few drinks (not sure if he actually does but I often get that impression).
After reading Celticjobbers post I want a new gimmick of a 50s family. They can feud with the returning Deuce and Super Domino, it would be the best feud ever.

I guess we can disagree but it's just seems backwards to me. Like you don't yell at women because you think they're weaker then men and can't handle as much as men can. It's kind of outdated.

That's how I see it too. It takes a lot for me to raise my voice (only person I've hit out of anger is my little brother haha) at someone, so if I ever get to that point it doesn't matter if there's a girl or dude involved.

I find that anything Piper does since 2005 to be total tripe. He mugs for the crowd and just seems out of place in everything he does. His appearance at the 2008 rumble against snuka was really sad to watch. But i was glad that he got injured in 2006 so they found that cancer he had, he is lucky to be here today.
Ive never been a piper fan, I found his face stuff from the late 1980s to be really bizarre. Like the segment with Morton Downey, his half black face/body and his commentary was atrocious (see gooker's first appearcance in 1990).
But his stuff with Goldust in 96, His run against Hogan and the NWO in 97 was awesome. The segment where he outed bischoff as the mastermind behind the NWO was chillingly good. And his run against Mr.America in 2003 was pretty entertaining.
Back to the subject at hand, I felt that Piper was creepy and really dull. I'm just glad Bryan got through it without having to take a beating and put over Piper.

It's kind of outdated. you only yell at someone, who's supposed to be equal to you. if you're willing to be yelled at back, or you're defending yourself from someone already yelling at you or a jerk who knows them well enough to know they won't fight back. Based on the way our society is there's no way to know if a woman would give back as good as she got, so you don't do it.
